POSITION SUMMARY
Works under the general direction and supervision of a senior Engineer or lEAD Designer. Will be responsible for the design of major components or portions of a project. Will require a thorough knowledge of basic mathematics, CAD software, 3-D modeling software and instrument design. Capable of independent research regarding elements or devices used in a design. Incumbent upon this position is the capability of handling assignments which involve a variety of design procedures and techniques.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
DIRECTION RECEIVED
Works under general supervision completing assignments and solving detailing problems related to instrument designs and/or presentations. Work is reviewed while in progress for new or non-recurring designs/methods or when work is not covered by specific guidelines, standards, or similar documents. All work is reviewed upon completion.
DIRECTION OF OTHERS
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Sufficient vision to operate a computer during most of the workday.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Prepares detailed instrument documents and drawings (location plans, loop drawings, installation details, etc.) based on application requirements as established by project and/or senior Engineer/Designer.
- Review (red-line) instrumentation designs, documents and drawings relative to applicable industry, practice, and company standards.
- Prepare cost analysis and alternative cost research for products and sub-systems incorporated into larger systems and projects.
- Participates in meetings with the Instrument Discipline Project Team.
- Supports and assists in preparation, editing, and review of technical reports regarding status, progress, and issues regarding designs and design assignments.

DIRECTION OF OTHERS
- Provides guidance to drafters and technical staff on issues and designs related to instrumentation and its application to the project work.
- May provide limited supervision for junior designers and technicians on design elements or well defined developments.
- Provides first-pass quality review of work provided by assigned staff, suppliers, and contractors. All work is reviewed/checked by superiors for quality and conformance with standards.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Overtime may be required; potentially extensive for limited periods of time.
- Travel away from the office may be required.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENT
Varied and project related:
- May require multiple one-two week trips to project site(s), Client facilities, and/or jobsite(s).
- May require extended trips (up to three months) to project sites during commissioning and startup.
