Description
The Designer is required to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of survey computations, types of surveys, field and office operations and procedures, as well as the principles of the profession and various technical standards. The individual in this position is well versed with field note reduction, in-depth plan interpretation, and plan/plat preparation. The Designer should have intermediate to advanced knowledge of AutoCAD, along with Carlson and/or MicroStation along with InRoads. The Designer will have the ability to take ownership of drawings from a formatting and CAD standards perspective, as well as have the ability to decipher red lines and perform self-checks of drawings.

Responsibilities include importing survey field crew electronic field data using Carlson software, preparation of field to finish topographic surveys, plats, ALTA/NSPS and boundary surveys, construction stakeout computations and cut-sheets, Must have familiarity with highway and land development plans.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
Knowledge of field surveying practices and procedures.
Knowledge of drafting and reproduction methods.
Knowledge of land recording and conveyance procedures.
Ability to read and interpret drawings, topographic maps and real property descriptions.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or Certificate/Degree or related education in Computer Drafting/Design
1+ years CAD experience in civil production environment preferred
General understanding within CAD drawings as related to:
Layer management & usage
Drawing scales as they relate to text, dimensions, lines, viewports, etc.
Plotting & plot scales, pen tables, etc.
Good working knowledge of general computer functions/applications (Windows Explorer, Word, Excel, etc.)
Ability to prioritize and multi-task with respect to projects, CAD standards, etc. on a daily basis
Ability to meet job requirements/requests to achieve deadlines and contribute time needed to do such
Ability to work overtime as needed
Strong attention to details while maintaining consistent work flow
Willingness/ability to expand knowledge of CAD abilities through training (in-house & self)
Willingness/ability to assume increased responsibilities when presented with them
Ability to work as team player and interact well with others
Strong organizational skills
AutoCAD experience in Civil Engineering or related industry preferred
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES
A valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Using CAD, apply proper industry, client and company standards to prepare plats and drawings for surveys such as but not limited to Property Mosaic, Location Drawings, FEMA Elevation Certifications, Topographic, Planimetric, Boundary, Right-of-Way, ALTA/NSPS Land Title, As-Built, Construction Stake-Out, Bathometric (Soundings), and Control Network Surveys, Right-of-Way Plats and Subdivisions Plats, Utility Easement Exhibits/Plats, and Land Descriptions
Perform in depth land records research on location and online to obtain Railroad Val Maps, FEMA Flood maps, Deeds, Plats, Utility Plans, State Highway Administration documents and plats
Interaction with client contacts, the public and governmental agencies
Field-to-office problem solving
Record keeping and time keeping
Perform survey computations using math, trigonometry, geometry, and algebra
Process, Reduce and check field notes/data for standard surveys
Read site plans, boundary plats, highway plans, utility plans, profiles and cross sections
Set up MISS Utility tickets for all field projects
Scanning and archiving survey department documents
Report to the Survey Project Manager on project status
Perform peer QC reviews
Perform field checks and site visits
Understand constraints such as budget and project timeline
