Job Summary
The Communications and Public Relations Director leads Health Share’s strategic communications, developing messaging, brand identity, and public engagement across multiple channels. This role develops and executes communications strategies that amplify Health Share’s mission and ensure all messaging is culturally relevant, inclusive, and aligned with the diverse communities we serve. The Director ensures compliance with regulatory requirements for all member-facing communications. As the public information officer and primary spokesperson, the Director also manages relationships with external marketing, PR, and media consultants.
Responsibilities
Communications Strategy and Marketing Oversight
- Develop aligned communications with Health Share’s strategic goals, ensuring all efforts support the organization’s mission and objectives.
- Lead integrated communications strategies, guiding messaging, media outreach, digital marketing, and design.
- Utilize a health equity lens to bring inclusive and culturally connected communication strategies.
- Develop and implement communication policies to ensure consistency, quality, and effectiveness.
- Manage social media strategy to drive engagement and enhance Health Share’s digital presence.
- Lead the Communications Work Group for unified messaging.
- Develop an annual communication strategy in collaboration with partners.
- Oversee external vendors and consultants to ensure quality delivery of marketing materials.
Media Relations
- Develop and execute a proactive media strategy to elevate Health Share’s presence.
- Serve as the primary spokesperson, engaging with media and preparing staff for interactions.
- Advise senior leadership on media relations strategies and prepare clear messages.
- Track media coverage and measure the success of earned media campaigns.
Content and Material Production
- Direct the creation of content for internal and external communications.
- Ensure culturally relevant, accessible materials that align with Medicaid compliance standards.
- Collaborate with design consultants to develop print materials and digital assets.
- Manage the production and distribution of materials, ensuring high-quality execution.
- Ensure website content is current and reflects the latest updates.
Management and Leadership
- Manage team(s) and recommend team direction and goals.
- Identify staffing needs and recruit using an equity, diversity, and inclusion lens.
- Develop and oversee an annual operating budget for the communications department.
- Evaluate employee performance and provide regular feedback.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Strategic Communications Leadership: Experienced in leading senior-level communications strategies.
- Digital Communications: Strong understanding of digital channels and content management systems.
- Media Relations & Public Affairs: Expertise in media relations, including crisis communications.
- Content Development & Audience Engagement: Skilled in creating culturally relevant content.
- Health Care Knowledge & Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of the Oregon Health Plan and compliance regulations.
Education and/or Experience
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in communications, including 3 years in strategic communications and as a media spokesperson.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a supervisory position.
Working Conditions
This position may include occasional required or optional travel outside of the workplace.
