Job Description
We are seeking an Editorial Director to help us launch and run day-to-day editorial operations for WP Intelligence, the Washington Post's new professional subscription division. This is a high-level editing job overseeing a new product aimed at c-suites, policymakers and business decision makers who are seeking a deeper connection to Washington Post insights through analysis, data, private convenings and roundtable discussions.
The ideal candidate is a veteran politics, policy or business editor who has an entrepreneurial mindset, is seeking a role in building a new product and understands the information needs of business and policy leaders. With the launch of WP Intelligence in 2025, The Post plans to build an entirely different editorial delivery model than the traditional newsroom, publishing in-depth B2B analysis, hosting live and virtual subscriber-only briefings and providing market-moving forecasting and insights.

The salary range for this position is:
161,100.00 - 299,300.00 USD Annual
The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.

Key responsibilities
- Build the editorial vision for the WP Intelligence product - including innovating on content types, website design, audience engagement and metrics - by working with the General Manager of WP Intelligence.
- Bring expert voices to professional subscribers by helping to hire lead analysts for key verticals, including on topics such as national security, AI and tech, energy and climate, health care and future of work.
- Deliver premium B2B journalism to professional subscribers by running the day-to-day editorial operations of WP Intelligence, which includes building an editorial calendar, establishing deadlines, monitoring the publishing schedule.
- Deliver a regular cadence of high-quality journalism by line editing weekly analysis pieces from each of the five verticals we plan to launch, while assigning other editorial tasks as needed.
- Build the best experiences for WP Intelligence subscribers by coordinating with the WP Live events team on live and virtual briefings, with The Washington Post newsroom on talent and topics, and with product on the design of the site.
- Empower revenue teams to discuss coverage, growth and topics that will draw subscriptions and sponsors by championing the editorial team's work.
Requirements
- Expertise: 10+ years of media or publishing experience in politics, policy or business coverage, with significant reporting or editing accomplishments and recognition within the industry.
- Leadership experience in a newsroom, plus managing multiple reporters across multiple platforms.
- Live or virtual event experience is a plus, as our analysts will be hosting and briefing subscribers and c-suites in both virtual and live settings.
- Strategic Mindset: Ability to connect content with broader market, policy and organizational strategies, contributing to business success.
- Experience managing or collaborating with editorial teams to produce high-quality, timely analysis.
