Position Summary:

Performance Today® is hiring a new host. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the program's next chapter as an acclaimed radio broadcast that's also growing its multi-platform audience and engagement as part of APM's YourClassical portfolio. The high-profile host will work at the forefront of national classical music programming and hosting, serving as a trusted, experienced, and engaging guide to help audiences discover new classical music, learn about up-and-coming talent, and appreciate the premier performers of this genre. The host will work with an experienced team of producers and technical directors to produce and present the daily radio show, preparing and delivering world-class content in inviting ways. They will have a central role in evolving Performance Today® as a multi-channel offering that's creatively and distinctively reaching new audiences in the digital spaces they inhabit. The host periodically will travel to music festivals and host additional live events.

This position requires a skilled host with deep knowledge of classical music and exceptional writing skills who can interview program guests, present across media platforms, and host live events. The host balances several qualities, serving audiences as an intuitive friend with something interesting to share, a genuine magnetism that can inspire and uplift, and steady and trustworthy guide who is also brave and passionate. The host needs to be a collaborative and efficient production partner to Performance Today® and YourClassical colleagues. Regular air-checking and coaching opportunities will be an ongoing part of the role. The host will need to learn new cross-functional skills and be expected to voice track on a consistent, weekday daily schedule.

This position sits in the collective bargaining agreement between MPR and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists ("SAG-AFTRA").

Expected Compensation Range:

$80,000 - $100,000/yr. The exact salary is determined by experience and education related to the role, organizational compensation structure, and internal equity.

Your Role:

Host daily weekday episodes of Performance Today® including writing intros and scripts, recording, and presenting. Conduct in-depth research for preparation for scripting and presenting content. Prepare for and conduct occasional interviews with guests. Host live classical music events and conduct live interviews at festivals and other locations. Engage with audiences and cultivate relationships with partners and classical music communities. Create and produce special audio programming/broadcasts as assigned. Create and contribute various digital and multi-platform products to reach and engage audiences in new ways. Represent Performance Today® in the community and participate in its promotion including possible public appearances and on-air fundraising activities. Uphold the core principles of YourClassical: passion, excellence, discovery, and inclusivity. Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelors' degree OR equivalent work experience Minimum 3 years on-air broadcasting experience Experience writing for classical music broadcasts

Preferred experience:

Experience presenting in both audio and digital mediums An established presence and connections in the classical music landscape. Some technical production knowledge and skills

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Background in classical music broadcasting with strong on-air presence and skill Extensive knowledge in all aspects of classical music: history, composers, periods, and compositions Knowledge and appreciation of current trends and events in classical music. Strong and imaginative writing skills with specific acumen in classical music Excellent ability to engage the listener Friendly and welcoming voice and presence - capable of having fun on the air Demonstrated interviewing experience Comfortable with and willing to host/produce content for radio and digital platforms Willing and able to adapt to feedback from regular air checks and ongoing coaching Excellent pronunciation of classical music names and terms Ability to work as a member of a high-functioning team Ability to work well with others in a goal-oriented, collaborative team environment Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment Creativity, positive energy, and desire to lead ideas to completion Ability to be resourceful and solve problems as they arise Curiosity and enthusiasm about ways to bring new listeners to this art form Ability to embrace new technology for production and multi-platform presentation Interest in the arts and arts events Willing to travel to and work at events around the country
