The Minnesota State Fair is in search of a Superintendent to oversee the Creative Activities building during the Fair and support the creative activities competitions with staffing, exhibitor interactions and more. This position is perfect for someone who has a passion for engaging with exhibitors, makers, demonstrators and the public. This position oversees the operations of the Creative Activities building's daily functions throughout the twelve days of the State Fair.
This is an on-site position. Remote work or hybrid work is not available.

This position is perfect for someone who has a passion for engaging with exhibitors, makers, demonstrators and the public. This position oversees the operations of the Creative Activities building's daily functions throughout the twelve days of the State Fair.

Essential Functions:
- Serve as liaison between the Minnesota State Fair Competition department and creative activities staff, exhibitors and demonstrators.
- Work closely with the Creative Activities Pre and Post Fair Superintendent to ensure a smooth transition from pre-fair set up to fair time operations.
- Daily operations of fair-time staff including opening and closing of building and maintenance of building.
- Engage with Fair guests to promote the competitions and programming of the creative activities department.
- Respond to public inquiries from Minnesota State Fair guest services.
- Field questions, issues, complaints regarding creative activities building operation and/or displays.
- Maintain electronic timecards for self and staff.
- Communicate with other Fair departments to resolve maintenance and repair issues.
- Provide a detailed summary report of the current year's Fair and suggestions for building needs and how to improve programming.
- Coordinate with Human Resources department to resolve employment related issues as needed.
- Assist with tasks as assigned by either the immediate supervisor or other full-time members of the Competition Department.
Requirements
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to direct and manage staff
- Ability to work well with groups, and co-manage staff
- Previous customer service related experience
- Detail oriented and problem solving skills
- Available to work late August - early September with limited days off.
- Extended hours during peak times and consecutive days without time off are required. No days off during the fair, Aug 21 - Sept 1. Schedule may vary during the fair.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
