Job Overview
The role of the Manuscript Transfer Editor is to oversee the manuscript transfer program within the ASM Journals portfolio. This includes managing transfer of rejected manuscripts to other ASM Journals by analyzing the manuscript subject matter and considering Editor as well as reviewer feedback to make appropriate recs. This role is responsible for timely processing of manuscripts and regularly compiling and distributing reports on manuscript transfers. The Manuscript Transfer Editor plays a critical role in retaining more manuscripts in house and will collaborate with members of the Editorial and Ops team to work towards this objective. Due to the nature of the role, a strong understanding of biological sciences and interfacing areas along with journal scopes and standards is required.
Accountabilities (are the critical activities and results the position is held accountable to produce)
Essential Functions (defines the critical end results expected of the jobholder related to the accountabilities above)
1. Responsible for the manuscript transfer program within ASM Journals, including assessing manuscripts for transfer eligibility, enforcing manuscript transfer policies, and resolving queries from stakeholders as needed.
2. Evaluate scientific research in microbial sciences and interfacing areas.
3. Decide the fate of rejection manuscripts in conjunction with Editors.
4. Partner with Journals staff to align manuscript transfer strategy with department objectives.
5. Oversee manuscript transfer metrics and regularly report on manuscript transfer to ensure progress towards objectives.
6. Establish relationships with editorial teams of sister ASM journals and stay abreast of any new initiatives and evolving journal scopes within the ASM portfolio.
7. Participate in pilot project, program improvements, Journals meetings, and Editorial Board meetings as needed.
8. Identify and report on bottlenecks and opportunities in the transfer process.
9. Stay updated on developments in the microbial sciences, open access initiatives, and the evolving publishing landscape.

Salary Range
$86,202.93 -$112,107.35 (USD)
