The Bookmobile and Mobile Services Department is seeking a full-time Library Associate to support Department operation and services to meet the needs of Library customers of all ages.

Hours:

Monday - Friday: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Job Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Must possess a commitment to a high level of public service to Library customers through mobile service.
  • Must possess excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Ability to operate various library vehicles, from vans to bookmobile freightliners up to 40 feet
  • Ability to adhere to the Bookmobiles and Mobile Services weather guidelines
  • Ability to bend to low shelves or reach to high shelves when reaching for books and other library material
  • Ability to push a full cart or flatbed full of books, totes or other Library materials
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to accomplish daily tasks independently or as a team.
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to stand for up to eight hours per shift
Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Performs circulation duties to establish and maintain accurate customer records.
  2. Maintains, promotes and utilizes the collection to ensure patrons have constant access and interest in Library materials.
  3. Provide exemplary customer service to patrons of all ages
  4. Works cooperatively with staff to develop a positive, collaborative, and strong team that fully supports all Department services, activities and ongoing growth.
  5. Operates all Department vehicles to designated locations, ensuring timely and safe transportation of library materials.
  6. Other duties as assigned.


Performance Criteria for the Essential Responsibilities:

1. Performs circulation duties to establish and maintain accurate customer records.
  • Registers and cross check relevant patron information provided to create, safely store and maintain accurate patron data.
  • Issues and checks in library material accurately courteously and in an efficient manner to ensure a positive library experience.
  • Resolves account issues according to Library procedures.
  • Communicates appropriately with customers, co-workers and management to ensure Library policies and procedures are implemented consistently and courteously in support of public service.
  • Performs necessary computer and wireless technology connectivity functions to ensure both remote and onsite circulation and clerical functions can be successfully completed.
  • Maintain and store all mobile technology safely and securely to avoid damage and theft.
2. Maintains, promotes and utilizes the collection to ensure patrons have constant access and interest in Library materials.
  • Perform clerical duties in accordance with performance standards by placing material requests, routing requested materials, preparing and managing materials for patrons.
  • Restocks and maintains the collection as assigned, including shelving, organizing, shifting, shelf-reading, weeding, and processing collection maintenance reports.
  • Maintains collection storage and work areas in an organized and uncluttered manner.
  • Utilizes the collection and library resources to create programming themes, interactive activities for all variety of patrons; while promoting subject areas that engage and interest customers.
3. Provide exemplary customer service to patrons of all ages
  • Arrive and leave at assigned sites at scheduling times and maintain communications with all service locations so that patrons stay informed of the schedule.
  • Maintain knowledge of services, schedules, and programs to connect patrons to the correct resource of the Department and the library system.
  • Assesses customer's needs (reference, informational, directional, readers' advisory) in order to provide appropriate information.
  • Maintain knowledge of current electronic devices including eReaders, tablets, iPads and are able to assist customers with technology needs.
  • Educates customers in library skills and enables them to become confident library users.
  • Cross train and substitutes on mobile units as needed.
4. Works cooperatively with staff to develop a positive, collaborative, and strong team that fully supports all Department services, activities and ongoing growth.
  • Carries out team and individual duties and assignments to the manager's satisfaction including reading and responding to Library e-mail daily.
  • To contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department; Staff will share information with colleagues, work together to foster a civil working environment while appreciating all team members.
  • Participates actively in staff meetings to share ideas, recommendations, issues, and solutions with the group.
  • Maintain and submit in a timely manner accurate statistics and other data tracking information.
  • Provides Department Managers with regular updates such as on tasks, performance, issues, suggestions, customer feedback and any topics that will keep the department well informed.
  • Assists with programs, special events and activities, as directed.
5. Operates all Department vehicles to designated locations, ensuring timely and safe transportation of library materials.
  • Adheres to all safety regulations, state law, and Library vehicle policy regarding the use of Library-owned vehicles.
  • Maintains vehicle or unit in an organized, clean, and orderly manner for the safety of all visitors.
  • Assists with daily vehicle checklist and logs and immediately communicates vehicle issues to Bookmobile Management, noting mechanical and vehicle body defects.
  • Ensures safety of customers approaching and/or boarding vehicles to the greatest possible extent.
  • Takes action and knows the procedures to deal with potentially disruptive or unsafe situations.
  • Maintains a strong understanding of route locations and general directions when driving to the site.
6. Other duties as assigned.
