CLASS DEFINITION:

Positions in this class are characterized by their association with direct instruction process for students in a variety of areas related to music. Positions within this class require the ability to work with children in the classroom under the general supervision of the site or service administrator. Within this class, levels are differentiated by the credentials, degree of skills and expertise required to perform successfully within the assignment.

POSITION DEFINITION:

Under general supervision to provide instruction to students within credential authorized service; supervise the classroom and playground activities of students; plan as necessary with other staff members for the effective delivery of instruction for students; maintain records to demonstrate and evaluate students' educational/social/emotional progress; work with the staff members, parents and other specialists necessary to develop an effective and efficient schedule, and to do related work as required.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
•Provide daily instruction to students in authorized and assigned subject areas
•Provide for adequate planning for students' music instructional programboth long and short term
•Provide an orderly, functional and attractive learning environment for students
•Work cooperatively with others in the school to provide for coordinated services for students
•Maintain necessary records to evaluate student learning and periodically report that progress to the parent/student/supervisor
•Maintain regular contact with the teachers/parents/guardians about student progress
•Maintain high level of skill and expertise in the area of music and in strategies by which to teach required skills to students
•Implement district and school policies regarding the instruction of students
•Provide staff development to other general and special education teachers in the area of music
•Able to do minor musical instrument repair
•Able to maintain an accurate inventory of district musical equipment
•Able to instruct students on a variety of wind, brass and percussion instruments

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Education and Experience:

Required is a B.A./B.S. degree from an accredited college or university and a teaching credential authorizing service as a music teacher.

Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of and the ability to apply current teaching techniques in a variety of areas, strong knowledge of music including music theory, techniques of playing instruments, and related areas, laws and applicable sections of Federal rules and regulations, State Education Code and District and school policies, as well as the Board's goals and objectives. The abilities to relate in a positive manner with students, to discipline students fairly and firmly, to communicate in an effective manner with parents, students and other professionals, understand and follow both oral and written directions, work within an established schedule, maintain and interpret records, work confidentially, read, interpret and follow regulations, policies and procedures and work cooperatively with others in the school and district setting.

Licenses and other Requirements:

Valid child/adult CPR certificate

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
•Visual capability to read handwritten or typed documents and the display screen of various office equipment and machines
•Ability to conduct verbal conversation in English
•Able to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels)
•Able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, walk
•Able to stand on hard flooring for sustained periods of time
•Able to walk on hard flooring for sustained periods of time
•Able to walk a sustained distance as necessary for parade routes of up to 3 miles
•Able to climb slopes, stairs and ladders
•Able to push and/or pull a variety of tools and equipment
•Able to lift up to 30 pound frequently and 75 pounds occasionally
•Able to push and pull objects weighing up to 200 pounds
•Able to sustain strenuous manual labor for the employee's normal work day
•Able to exhibit full range of motion for shoulder external rotation and internal rotation
•Able to exhibit full range of motion for shoulder abduction and adduction
•Able to exhibit full range of motion for back flexion
•Able to exhibit full range of motion for elbow flexion and extension
•Able to exhibit full range of motion for hip flexion and extension
•Able to exhibit full range of motion for knee flexion
•Able to exhibit manual dexterity needed to operate a computer and other classroom and office equipment
•Able to work with cleaning solutions, disinfectant and sanitizers without allergic reaction

SALARY SCHEDULE: Certificated Annual/Monthly
