Job Description

This position is responsible for creating and revising Hobart technical documentation needed by technicians for supporting all product line(s). Interacting with Engineering, Marketing, Product Support teams and others to gather needed data and standards to create required documents.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Within assigned areas of responsibility, create and develop technical documentation for Hobart commercial food equipment. Work collaboratively with other teams (including Engineering, Marketing, Product Support, etc.) to gather data and standards needed to complete assigned projects. Assist as needed to help create a better service organization for Hobart.
  • Develop parts catalogs and write technical service material such as Service Manuals and other service documentation needed to support the field service organization.
  • Update existing parts catalogs and service manuals as submitted by Engineering, Product Support, Service Parts Distribution Center, and Technicians.
  • Create and maintain excellent working relationships with all teams associated with projects assigned.
  • Provide recommended parts lists for manuals working with Product Support team to define Build of Materials (BOM).
  • Work within project timelines to be ready for production releases.
  • Assist in maintaining the consistency of standards within the Technical Publications department and across the Field Support and Training teams.
  • Interpret and react to engineering change notices which impact service parts in Technical Information System (TIS).
  • Compile and update information as needed in TIS.
  • Prepare service readiness for new product introduction and significant existing product changes as they relate to company training needs.
  • Ensure all parts catalogs and service documentation demonstrates safe practices. (Eighty percent of time spent performing this duty)

Education and Work Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, Mechanical, Electrical, or other Engineering discipline.
  • 2 or more years of Technical Writing / Parts Illustrator creation and development
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office;
  • Adobe Acrobat, Captivate, Illustrator, Photoshop
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
Desired Education/Experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficient in Adobe programs such as Illustrator, Photoshop, Captivate, and Acrobat Professional.
  • Proficient in Solid Works, Pro E, Creo, Inventor or other engineering software:
    • Exploded-view parts illustrations
    • Schematic diagrams
    • Wiring diagrams
  • Broad understanding of managing databases and server understanding
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Certificates and Licenses

Job -Specific Knowledge
  • Performs mechanical and substantive edits, correcting grammar, technical usage, content, and organizational problems in documents.
  • Performs proofreading, grammar, and full edits on technical, general-audience, and administrative documents.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is:
  • Regularly required to remove parts from equipment to take pictures
  • Frequently required to sit for extended period of time.
  • Occasionally required to:
    • Exposure to noise, heat, cold, slippery, wet conditions
    • Kneel, squat, bend push/pull
    • Lift 10-25lbs with or without assistance
Working Conditions
  • Position performed primarily in an office setting
  • Customer sites and conditions will vary based on industry and product
  • Up to 5% travel
