A renowned design firm is seeking a dynamic and experienced Lead Interior Designer to join their residential design team. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional with a passion for creating stunning spaces.
The successful candidate will bring over 10 years of specialized experience in residential interior design, showcasing outstanding presentation and drafting capabilities. As a central figure in the design process, you will work closely with the Principal Designer, managing the entire project lifecycle from initial concepts to finalized construction documentation and on-site management. You will collaborate with a team of 3-5 designers, leading project-related tasks, client interactions, and contractor coordination.
Key Responsibilities & Skills:
Conduct thorough research and analysis to understand client goals, translating these into detailed documents and diagrams. Foster effective collaboration with the design team across multiple projects.
Create innovative preliminary space plans and compelling two- and three-dimensional design concepts that align with client needs and reflect an understanding of interior design principles.
Oversee the seamless implementation of interior design solutions, ensuring each project progresses smoothly from concept through to installation.
Ensure all space plans and design concepts prioritize safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal, adhering to public health, safety, and welfare standards.
Select and specify colors, materials, and finishes that not only represent the design concept but also meet functional performance and safety requirements.
Manage the interior design resource library and maintain vendor agreements for furnishings and finishes.
Specify furniture, fixtures, and equipment, including layout drawings and comprehensive product descriptions, while preparing contract documentation for pricing and procurement.
Develop precise specifications and schedules for furniture, plumbing, appliances, lighting, and finishes.
Prepare detailed construction documents that include plans, elevations, and specifications to communicate non-structural layouts and designs.
Ensure all construction documents comply with relevant local building codes, fire codes, and regulations applicable to the interiors.
Collaborate and coordinate with various design professionals, including architects and engineers, to ensure comprehensive project execution.
Monitor project implementation and provide detailed observations and reports on progress and completion, addressing any punch list items.
Prepare project budgets and proposals, overseeing project billings in accordance with defined roles and responsibilities.
Lead and mentor project designers, assistants, and interns, demonstrating strong managerial and communication skills.
Qualifications:
Degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture.
At least 10 years of experience in interior design or interior architecture.
Exceptional presentation skills; proficiency in space planning and drafting.
Experienced in AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Suite.
Competent in creating construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
Proficient in managing Excel spreadsheets.
Familiarity with timekeeping and billing software.
Experience in selecting and specifying lighting, furnishings, hardware, and materials.
Ability to effectively collaborate with the design team on multiple projects.
Experience with purchasing processes and budget management.
Knowledge of industry resources and vendor networks.
