Job Description Summary

Cuesta College is accepting applications for a Full-Time, Tenure Track Librarian who can foster students' sense of belonging and engagement through inclusive library in-person and online services, teaching, and active digital equity and access advocacy.
Primary responsibilities:
  • Provide reference assistance and research instruction one-on-one and in small groups in a variety of modalities and integrating emerging technologies;
  • Manage library software, applications, social media, and related library technology and using LMS (Canvas) and other online tools;
  • Develop strategic partnerships with instructional faculty and other departments, programs, and supporting student equity and success.

Essential Functions & Qualifications

Required:
-Master's in library science, library and information science from an accredited institution;
OR
-The equivalent. (Candidates applying on the basis of equivalency must submit all materials requested for an equivalency judgment. For directions on what is an acceptable equivalency argument please review the requirements listed on the or see further information on Equivalency Petition Process Information below.).
OR
-A valid Community College credential in the discipline (If received prior to 1990, as the credential is no longer being issued).

Required:
-Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable:
-Experience in the discipline, including reference desk, teaching, and outreach, community college level preferred;

Interview Process Information
Selected applicants will be invited to an interview on Wednesday, April 2 or Thursday, April 3, 2024.
First interviews will be held in person or via Zoom by candidate request. In-person interviews are preferred and, in the interest of equity, candidates will be reimbursed up to $500 toward their travel expenses if they choose to interview on campus. Virtual teaching and lab demonstrations will be evaluated using the same criteria as in-person demonstrations and will be expected to facilitate similar levels of effectiveness, skill, engagement and interaction.
Second interviews will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
The selected applicant will begin their full-time assignment July 1, 2025.

Cuesta College's Benefits website:

A faculty member who is employed for less than 40% of the assigned time of a full-time faculty member is not eligible to participate in or to receive a District contribution toward the medical insurance benefit program.

All regular full-time faculty members and full-time temporary faculty members are required to enroll in at least the minimum medical coverage. Every new regular full-time faculty member/full-time temporary faculty member must enroll when they are first eligible, which is the first of the month following their date of hire.

A part-time faculty member who is eligible, but does not wish to participate in the District's medical insurance benefit program must complete a Declination of Coverage form.

A faculty member whose monthly cost for insurance exceeds the District's contribution is required to pay the additional cost by payroll deduction.
