Salary: $18.13pr minimum /DOE

Part time, under 19 hours per week, days and times are flexible

The Garden Seed Library Coordinator manages the Library Garden and the Seed Library. This position involves overseeing garden care, coordinating volunteers, and collaborating with library staff to create engaging programs. Acting as a community liaison, the Coordinator ensures the Library Garden and Seed Library remain accessible, functional, and vibrant hubs for learning and connection.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Garden Maintenance:
    • Plan, plant and maintain annual flowers, vegetable plants and decorative features
    • Weed, cultivate, and design for ongoing garden health and appearance
  • Volunteer Coordination:
    • Collaborate with library staff to recruit, train and lead garden volunteers
    • Foster a collaborative and motivated team to support garden maintenance and programming
  • Programming Collaboration:
    • Partner with library staff to implement garden-related programming for diverse audiences
    • Partner with community members and organizations for support in programming ideas, resources, and information
  • Seed Library Coordination:
    • Oversee the Seed Library, ensuring its accessibility, organization, and promotion within the community
    • Support educational initiatives for community engagement through informational resources for seed saving, preservation, etc.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Submit garden and seed library-related budget proposals
  • May support other library operations and functions when the workload permits
  • Perform or participate in special projects, events, or other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE, BUT MAY NOT BE LIMITED TO:

  • Perform repetitive hand/wrist/arm movements, including grasping/gripping and keyboarding
  • Standing or walking for extended periods of time
  • Climbing, stooping, bending, reaching, digging, and kneeling
  • Lifting, twisting, and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Pushing/pulling of equipment that requires 20 to 25 pounds of exertion to initiate movement and 10 to 15 pounds of exertion to sustain movement


Additional Skills Needed for the Position:

  • Clear communication skills in English, both verbal and written
  • Valid, unrestricted drivers license with a clean driving record
  • Knowledge, training, and work experience in gardening or horticulture


Preferred Skills:

  • Experience designing and delivering educational or community-based programs
  • Knowledge of sustainable gardening practices and seed-saving techniques
  • Leadership experience in overseeing volunteer teams or community projects


Minimum Education:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • A high school diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily performed outdoors and is subject to elements of the natural environment
  • Occasionally requires driving on Library business, subject to weather and road conditions


Equipment, Tools, and Software Experience: (Example)

  • Common gardening and maintenance tools specific to establishing and maintaining an outdoor garden area.
  • Common office and library equipment such as copiers, scanners, computers, mobile devices, printers,
  • Common office applications such as Google and Microsoft Suite for web searching, email, tracking and report preparation
