Assistant Professor of Music/Voice
The Department of Music at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Music (Voice). This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track appointment beginning in August 2025.
We are primarily seeking an accomplished and excellent applied voice teacher able to effectively train pre-professional singers in functional, industry-viable voice technique and performance across contemporary (commercial and jazz) and musical theatre singing genres. The selected candidate must have an understanding of industry expectations and current trends in commercial music and jazz and musical theatre singing.
Responsibilities will primarily include teaching undergraduate applied voice lessons to students in our BA Commercial Music and Jazz and BFA Musical Theatre programs, leading a weekly studio class, and preparing students for degree capstone experiences (recitals, projects, etc.). Experience teaching vocal improvisation in commercial music and jazz styles highly preferred. The successful candidate will be able to work collaboratively with the Commercial Music and Jazz faculty to strengthen curriculum and develop sustainable recruitment strategies. The ideal candidate will maintain an active professional life in performing, recording, and/or scholarly and creative activity.
Additional duties may include leading commercial and/or jazz ensembles and teaching other undergraduate music coursework based on the candidate's expertise. University-level teaching experience greatly preferred. This position also requires service activities to the department, college, university, community, and profession.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must have earned a terminal degree in music or a related discipline, or have significant commensurate professional experience.
