Purpose and Scope of Assignment

The Development Coordination Office (DCO) is committed to providing the Resident Coordinator System and the UN Sustainable Development Group with cutting-edge software platforms that facilitate efficient and effective development operations. Building upon an established foundation, DCO is now focused on enhancing, expanding, and evolving these platforms in-house.

The ICT Specialist (UI/UX Designer) will be a key member of the development team, responsible for creating user-centered and visually appealing interfaces for our digital products and services. This includes:

  • User Research: Conduct user research to understand user needs, behaviors, and preferences.
  • Information Architecture: Design clear and intuitive information architecture, navigation, and user flows for websites and applications.
  • Wireframing and Prototyping: Create wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes to visualize and test design concepts.
  • Visual Design: Develop high-fidelity visual designs that align with brand guidelines and accessibility standards.
  • Interaction Design: Design engaging and user-friendly interactions and animations.
  • Usability Testing: Conduct usability testing throughout the design process.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, developers, and stakeholders.
  • Design Systems: Contribute to the development and maintenance of design systems.
  • Stay Current: Keep abreast of the latest UI/UX design trends and tools.

Other Duties

  • Function as an active member of the wider DCO development team.
  • Perform light design duties on some of UNDCO data products as assigned.

Education:

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) preferably in Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, or a related field with five (5) years of relevant experience is required.
  • A first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) with seven (7) years of relevant experience is desirable.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Usability Analyst) are a plus.

Work experience:

  • Relevant experience in UI/UX Design.
  • Experience in user-centered design solutions for web and/or mobile applications.
  • Experience in industry-standard design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar.
  • Experience conducting user research and incorporating findings into the design process.

Desirable:

  • Experience creating interactive prototypes using tools like Figma or Adobe XD.
  • Experience in visual design with an understanding of typography and layout principles.
  • Knowledge of interaction design principles and best practices.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Experience with collaborative platforms such as Jira or Gitlab.
  • Some experience working with the public or not-for-profit sector.

Language:

  • Fluency in English (read, write, speak) is required.
  • Knowledge of any other UN official languages will be considered an advantage.

Others:

  • The Candidate must have access to a computer with MAC OS X or Linux for running necessary development tools.
  • Availability during New York business hours for collaboration is expected.

Terms and Conditions

  • For retainer contracts, completion of mandatory courses is required before providing services.
  • All UNOPS personnel must perform duties in accordance with the UN Charter and UNOPS Policies.
  • Background checks are conducted on all potential personnel.
