Summary The position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of the Chief of Operations, Superintendent, Senate Office Buildings; Assistant Superintendent, Facilities Support Division; Project Design Branch. The position is responsible for developing designs and furnishings of interior spaces including historically sensitive areas to existing buildings and structures coming under the jurisdiction of the Senate Office Buildings (SOB). Responsibilities The individual selected for this position will perform the following duties: Carries out complex interior design projects for Members of Congress, Congressional committees and support organizations. Provides expertise and technical direction of all interior design projects from inception to completion. Prepares purchase specifications and justifications for interior design materials. Creates and develops complete interior designs, including complex features, utilizing the latest interior design and construction techniques Develops design plans considering such factors such as, function, user needs, energy use, building codes, durability and life cycle costs, sustainability, effective space planning, aesthetics and economics. Prepares complete interior design drawings in compliance with AOC criteria and needs. Provides information as to criteria for structural, mechanical and electrical designs and writes interior architectural specifications and design analysis reports. Prepares preliminary and final interior design plans for building structures, including finishes, textures, colors, interior and exterior color boards. Prepares complete comprehensive interior design packages to accompany building design, including detailed furnishings and equipment layouts and schedules encompassing power and communication requirements, type and functional needs, quantities, cost estimates, procurement documents and placement plans. Maintains adequate supplies of software and materials for use in the interior design program. Participates in architect-engineer (A/E) pre-selection process; Reviews designs prepared by A/E firms. Monitors progress of design and reports anticipated problems that adversely affects schedule to supervisor. Confers with architects/engineers during progress of the work to ensure compliance with directives. Provide expert advice on interior design principles for such diverse projects as administrative offices, meeting rooms, dining areas, physical fitness centers and child-care centers, etc. Provide or receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure that required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is utilized. You must meet the definition of specialized experience. Qualifications You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position. It is available for your review on the OPM web site at OPM qualification standards Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Candidates for the GS-13 grade level must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as having experience in at least 4 of the 5 areas below: Comprehensive knowledge of and experience with professional interior design concepts, principles, and practices to accomplish the full range of duties concerned with planning, design, renovation and construction of building interiors. Developing complete design plans, drawings, and specifications for new and/or existing interior design projects. Performing interior space planning and design analysis. Applying technical knowledge and expertise of Computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software to create and develop complete interior designs. Evaluating and monitoring quality levels of furnishings including but not limited to modular furniture and maintaining contact with suppliers, installation contractors and procurement personnel during all phases of projects Education No education substitution.
