POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES MIGHT INCLUDE:
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of a branch library.
Required minimum qualifications:
Education: Master of Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited college or university. {Please note: Upon job offer, you will be required to provide proof of education. Be sure to have the appropriate documents readily available.}
Experience: At least five years of experience in libraries or equivalent managerial experience is required with one (1) year of supervisory experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Certification: G-5 or higher certification from Georgia State Board for Certification of Librarians. (Must be able to attain a Georgia Librarian Certification Certificate)

This position requires staff call up in an emergency situation, less than fifty percent of travel is required from office to other locations.

Positions in this class typically require: walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Work is performed in an office setting.

Key responsibilities and performance standards:
- Directs the operation and management of branch functions to include personnel management, collection development, financial management, facility management, programming, technological advancement, and marketing/public relations; serves as the chief administrator of the branch library
- Provides training, staff development, and daily work schedules for paraprofessionals, students, and volunteers; interviews candidates for positions and performs quarterly/annual staff performance evaluations; writes standard operating procedures to ensure consistency of work procedures and services; applies positive staff reinforcement and disciplinary actions as needed
- Manages all public services, technical services, and administrative functions, including, but not limited to: reference/research services, circulation services (to include shelving and stacks maintenance), reader's advisory service, and interlibrary loan
- Plans and ensures the implementation of programs, events, activities, and workshops for all ages (including children, teens, young adults, adults, and senior adults)
- Collects statistics and prepares reports as directed by the Regional Library System; follows policies and procedures established by the Regional Library System; reads professional library journals and attends conferences/workshops
- Works harmoniously with members of the community, library board members, and elected and appointed city/county/state officials (10%)

- Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Knowledge of personnel management practices.
- Skill in preparing staff schedules and developing work plans.
- Skill in planning and implementing programs for adults and children.
- Skill in working with heads of other library departments and other governmental units.
- Skill in applying personnel management practices to daily operations.
- Skill in developing professional relationships with community organizations and local schools.
