Senior Director of Journalistic Standards and Public Trust .

Reporting to the General Manager and Editor in Chief, the Senior Director of Journalistic Standards and Public Trust is responsible for ensuring the journalism produced by CBC News adheres to the highest standards and principles outlined in CBC's Journalistic Standards and Practices. Under the guidance of the Senior Director, the JSP team manages the relationship with the Ombudsman's office and organizes responses to public complaints, working with the appropriate leaders from across the division.

The Senior Director leads the JSP office team of two Senior Advisors and one Senior specialist, who regularly consult and advise on complex matters of ethics and principles in our daily newsgathering, programming and investigative journalism.

With the support of the senior leadership team, the Senior Director manages the evolution of CBC's journalistic standards by growing and developing the strategy with internal and external stakeholders.

The Senior Director also owns the training file around journalism standards, as well as internal and external communication about how we apply our standards.

The successful candidate in this role will: Be the guardian of CBC's journalistic principles, able to work and advise journalists as they go about their work. The Senior Director must have the expertise and experience to advise and ensure proper standards for the most delicate and sensitive news initiatives. Lead the JSP team to advise all leaders of CBC News on matters of journalistic standards and practice and direct and manage escalations accordingly Manage the relationship with the Ombudsman's office, acting as the intermediary between the Ombudsman office and the leaders of CBC News Work closely with senior leaders and centres of expertise across CBC/Radio-Canada on matters of conflict and ethical issues Oversee the management and evolution of the CBC Language Guide Guide and lead the careful evolution of our standards through the prism of equity, diversity and inclusion Conduct or facilitate internal and external reviews about journalism concerns and monitor the balance and fairness in news and current affairs coverage Conduct reviews coming out of concerns raised by the Ombudsman's office Direct and lead the strategy around education related to journalistic policies and practices by interacting with CBC News, Entertainment, Factual & Sports, French Services and Corporate Services Report directly into the General Manager and Editor-in-Chief, acting as a key strategic advisor in all areas of the business relating to Journalistic Standards and Practices, public accountability and stakeholder engagement. Initiate and take part in conversations across communities regarding CBC journalism and work with the senior leadership to educate external and internal stakeholders about journalism issues Manage and coordinate internal advisory committees Advise and consult on best practices around building and maintaining public trust in CBC journalism Act as a trainer and educator when appropriate This role will include some writing for public consumption This role will be based on Toronto Travel expectations: 10 to 15%

What you bring: A proven track record of success as an editorial leader and advisor Proven experience in developing strategic plans and successfully executing these plans Significant work experience in the areas of journalism and education A proven track record of success in managing complex relationships with external and internal stakeholders Deep cultural awareness, sensitivity and appreciation of diversity of perspectives, opinion and experience Proven track record of continually upgrading one's knowledge and skills to keep current Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects effectively Strong competency in developing messaging for the public; supported by excellent written and oral communication skills Superior leadership skills, especially in the disciplines of communication, problem solving, and decision making Proven ability to get things done in a dynamic, multi-facetted, and complex environment Proven journalism and leadership experience Proven experience as a strategic thinker Ability to work in a matrixed environment Innovation oriented
