Duties: The Media Center position creates an environment where learning, collaboration and creative problem solving thrive. The Library Media position demonstrates his or her role as a visible and active member within the school community and as an advocate for the school library program. He/she is responsible for managing the library collection, providing and encouraging access to relevant and culturally responsive resources for students, faculty and other community members. The GMS Library is a very busy place and the heartbeat of our school. The perfect candidate will continue to nurture a welcoming environment where all feel welcome.

Essential Duties:
  • Join with teachers and others to plan and implement meaningful experiences that will promote a love of reading and lifelong learning
  • Maintain library collection as necessary (discard dated materials, purchase new materials)
  • Coordinate and supervise volunteers and student assistants if applicable
  • Work daily with chrome book check in/out, communicate and trouble shoot chrome book issues with I.T. staff
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and administrators
  • Encourage the use of instructional technology to engage students and to improve learning
  • Advocate for school library programs by striving to create unique learning opportunities for students
  • Demonstrate a commitment to maintaining intellectual freedom
  • Work with teachers and other educators to build and strengthen connections between student information and research needs, curricular content, learning outcomes, and information resources.
  • Create and maintain the school library as a teaching and learning environment that is inviting, safe, flexible, and conducive to student learning
  • Create flexible scheduling of the school library space to provide student accessibility to staff and resources at point of need

Responsible for providing support to students and staff with library and media use. Including, but not limited to, checking books, media material and chrome books in and out, fulfilling interlibrary loans, supervising student assistants and parent volunteers, assisting teachers and students with requests, processing materials and updating the database, assisting with purging and withdrawing
outdated materials, managing overdue items and fines, and purchasing materials and resolving problems with vendors.

Education/ Certification:
  • High school diploma, higher ed preferred
  • Criminal background check required for hire.
Experience:
  • Some experience preferred
  • Basic Computer Skills, i.e. word, excel, google doc
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Oral and written communication skills; English language skills.
  • Interpersonal relations skills; Customer service and public relations skills; Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.
  • Personal computer and keyboarding skills; advanced computer hardware and software skills; operating knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office and Google.
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with general office equipment, including telephones, copier, fax machine, etc.;
  • Knowledge of operating, installing, supporting and maintaining PC sand associated application software preferred at hire.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions; Ability to manage multiple priorities.

6.0 hours per day
Starting salary is grade 5 at $20.17 per hour.
