Job Description

The Social Media Director is responsible for leveraging social media to support the achievement of Mariners’ strategic goals and mission. The Director leads a team in the direct management of select social media accounts while also providing leadership across all congregations and ministry accounts to generate strategic alignment and sound overall social media practices.

This position reports to the Communications Pastor on the Communications team. A full-time position, the schedule is generally Monday-Friday but will also provide social media coverage during select weekend church services and events for a total of 40 hours per week. This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Responsibilities

  • Operationalize content planning processes which results in daily content publication, content that evolves with the platforms, planning rhythms that allow stakeholders to engage if needed, the ability to pivot quickly yet accurately, and ultimately grow account reach and engagement for the purpose of connecting known contacts and new contacts to the ministry of the church.
  • Implement account/community moderation practices that ensure comments, questions, and messages are acknowledged and responded to promptly.
  • Collaborate with internal partners to ensure our teams are equipped to engage in difficult conversations, knowing when to respond publicly, when to take conversations offline, and how to respond when needed in a manner that aligns with Mariners' positions while maintaining a compassionate and pastoral posture.
  • Develop processes that equip the team to manage and engage the community through various review platforms (Yelp, Google, etc.) establishing response criteria, timelines, and protocols.
  • Conduct ongoing research on benchmark trends and audience preferences.
  • Stay up-to-date with technologies and trends in social media and applications.
  • Develop social media strategy that is in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Develop multiplication systems that equip new congregations and ministries with standardized social media management processes to effectively launch new accounts.
  • Recruit, equip and deploy volunteers.

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years experience as a social media manager, in Communications, or Public Relations
  • 2-3 years experience managing teams
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Business, Marketing or a related field
  • Proven ability to manage time and multiple priorities while driving towards excellent results
