Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited college or university
Possess a bachelor's degree in education
Possess master's degree in Library Science
Possess a valid Texas Teacher's certificate
Possess a Learning Resources Endorsement (for those who earned the certification prior to January 23, 2001)
Minimum of 3 years of successful classroom and/or library experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Primary Purpose:
The Library Coordinator will coordinate and provide leadership in developing guidelines and standards for the district library media program, coordinate library media functions at both the building level, create and maintain curriculum standards and provide assessment of both the Library Media Specialists and campus programs.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Equipment Used:
Interactive boards, computer, printer, overhead projector, DVD/VCR, fax machine, and other emerging technologies which are particularly unique to the assignment. Instructional and productivity software, as required by the assignment.
Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Some intradistrict travel required in mentoring and coaching library media specialists new to the role or new to the district.

The Library Coordinator will coordinate and provide leadership in developing guidelines and standards for the district library media program, coordinate library media functions at both the building level, create and maintain curriculum standards and provide assessment of both the Library Media Specialists and campus programs.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain the guidelines and standards for the district library media program.
- Coordinate and communicate the goals and expectations of the district's library media program to campus administrators and department heads within the district.
- Plan, organize, and provide professional growth activities and updated district information for library media center personnel.
- Oversee and administer the book review process.
- Evaluate and maintain the book selection process at each campus.
- Evaluate programming to promote reading at all levels.
- Explicate district goals, objectives, procedures, and budgetary guidelines to campus library media specialists.
- Assist in planning and organizing new library media centers in the following ways:
- Planning with appropriate persons so as to assure adequate and functional facilities and furnishings for the library media centers.
- Facilitating the acquisition of basic collections of all types of resources and ensuring that the collections are processed and ready for use as close to the first day of instruction as possible.
- Providing mentoring to new librarians as well as librarians assigned to a new library media center.
- Develop and maintain open communication with all library media specialists for the intended area.
- Oversee all interns.
- Work closely with the curriculum department to ensure the libraries are aligned to the District's unit plans of study.
- Serve as a member on District-level committees such as but not limited to Instructional Materials, Reconsideration of Instructional Resources, and Design of the Library Centers.
- Work with universities as needed to develop future library media specialists and to enhance the current library programs offered at Katy ISD.
- Work with the Director of Instructional Technology and District Cataloger to ensure the evaluation of Library Media Specialists is up to date and provide best practices guide for principals at each level.
- Attend out-of-district professional library-related meetings as the representative of the district.
- Strong working knowledge of technology and its impact on the library and influence on literacy.
- Communicate with Director of Instructional Technology and the District Cataloger to ensure we are made aware of upcoming programs, library/media standards, and pertinent information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
