Job Summary/Basic Function
Photographer: The Picket Photographer is required to assist reporters with the visual element of a news story to most accurately visualize a story. The Photographer must know how to use and operate cameras, as well as edit photos and/or videos to be ready for posting on social media. The Photographer is also expected to take any other photos/videos pertaining to The Picket Newspaper. Lastly, the Photographer is required to write one story every two weeks.
Video Coordinator: The Picket Video Coordinator is required to provide video support for reporters if needed, such as sports stories. The Coordinator is also required to handle camera operation for home games while representing The Picket. The Coordinator is also required to work with the Editor-In-Chief/Managing Editor, the Picket Faculty Advisor, Photographer, and Social Media Manager for visual bites which may be useful for The Picket's social media accounts. Lastly, a Video Coordinator is required to write one story every two weeks.
Social Media Manager: The Picket Social Media Manager is required to run all of the Picket's social media accounts. This includes, but not limited to: writing all captions for posts, replying to any messages sent to any of the Picket's social media accounts, as well as editing and posting all visual elements pertaining to content the Picket creates for social media. The Manager must be well-acquainted with Instagram, Meta (formerly Facebook), TikTok, and X (formerly Twitter). The Manager is required to give the Editor-In-Chief/Managing Editor all updates on the social media accounts. The manager must also get approval from the Editor-In-Chief/Managing Editor prior to posting any type of content on social media.
Minimum Qualifications
Shepherd student in good standing with strong communication skills and demonstrated steady work ethic. This position is for students who have leadership experience in the daily operations of The Picket, or a similar collegiate student-run publication.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will have previous experience working with The Picket, with strong team-building skills, as well an ability to work extremely well with others in a diverse campus community environment. The preferred candidate will also have a working knowledge of Associated Press style, reporting experience, self-motivation, and the ability to multi-task and deadlines.
