Position Overview: Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Communications and Public Relations Manager is responsible for supporting communications efforts for the WCD with an emphasis on media and public relations, developing earned media coverage and telling the organizations story to internal and external stakeholders. They will work closely with the Marketing and Communications team to align on broad public relations goals and accountabilities and will serve as a primary contact with local and national media.

Responsibilities:
- Internal communications, includes but not limited to brand storytelling, employee intranet monitoring and updates, as well as employee engagement and participation.
- Compose and edit press releases, company literature and articles for internal and external use.
- Source and manage public relations and media opportunities for events hosted in the Wisconsin Center District venues.
- Building and maintaining relationships with media outlets, influencers, and other stakeholders.
- Monitor organic media coverage and keep key internal stakeholders informed of tone and sentiment of coverage within the daily media cycle.
- Develop public relations plans in support of WCD initiatives and create reports demonstrating the results of the organizations public relations efforts.
- Write press releases, advisories, and other collateral to support media initiatives for the WCD, the three WCD venues and for individual events.
- Assemble press kits.
- Research and write briefing materials.
- Research and respond to inbound media inquiries.
- Triage media requests about new initiatives, market launches, and potentially sensitive or controversial subject material.
- Demonstrate commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
- Develop training materials and lead staff trainings on media related subjects and communication best practices.
- Other responsibilities and duties as assigned to ensure the effective utilization of the company's resources and to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Strong project management and organizational skills in which attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects on time, is essential.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to navigate organizations to build relationships and garner support; ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Exceptional communication skills and situational adaptability; capable of clearly conveying WCD standards.
- Exceptional storytelling skills in multiple mediums.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently; exercise initiative, resourcefulness, and good judgement.
- Flexible and comfortable working under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Perform general office duties and cross train as needed to support WCD staff.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English; perform basic mathematical functions (add, subtract, multiply, and divide).

- Required
- Bachelor's degree from an academic institution in public relations, journalism, communications, English or similar field, OR equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of experience in public relations, communications or journalism.
- Preferred
- Corporate communications experience.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in public relations.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
