MOBILE SERVICES LIBRARIAN

CITY OF WORCESTER The City of Worcester seeks qualified applicants for the position of
Mobile Services Librarian
(Bookmobile Operator) for the Worcester Public Library. Under the direction of the Deputy Director for Borrower Services, this position performs the daily operations of the mobile libraries and delivery to branches.
This individual will coordinate and perform circulation activities; provide exemplary customer service to patrons; act as a liaison with the Main Library Circulation Department and C/W MARS.
The position will confirm that the vehicles are in good repair and report repair needs appropriately. Work schedule will include evenings, weekends and assignments in other departments and locations as assigned.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:
Facilitate the delivery and circulation of library materials and information to assigned vehicle stops
Drive van and/or large motor vehicle to assigned locations
Coordinate and perform all circulation activities
Act as a liaison with the Main Library Circulation department and with C/W MARS
Organize and perform the holds process and functions
Assist with readers advisory and reference services, including patron assistance
Provide exemplary customer service
Collect, record, and report appropriate statistics monthly
Load/unload materials; sort/shelve materials according to library procedure
Deliver bins of materials and equipment to and from Worcester Public Library locations on a regular basis
Assist with programming and outreach efforts
Supervise staff as assigned
Assist in training of staff in departmental procedures and circulation functions
Perform simple vehicle maintenance and cleaning as needed
Interpret library services and policies to patrons in a clear and courteous manner
Contribute to creating an environment orientated to trust, open communication, creative thinking, and cohesive team effort
Actively participate in staff development and training opportunities
Perform other duties, as assigned, consistent with the functions of the work unit and level of responsibilities
Work independently and recommend changes in service when needed
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to safely operate van and a large motor vehicle
Ability to work in all kinds of weather and road conditions, and to work at various mobile site stops for long periods of time
Skill and ability to work well with staff and customers and to project a good public service attitude
Ability to interpret library policies clearly and repeatedly to customers
Skill in handling public contacts with tact and courtesy
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate with professional and paraprofessional staff about concepts, ideas, and requirements
Strong commitment to consistent excellent customer service to a diverse population in an urban environment
High level of professionalism and commitment to the organization
Embrace opportunities to learn in a fast-paced changing environment
Demonstrate proficiency in current and emerging technologies
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to create positive working relationships with a diverse staff
Ability to learn and use library technologies
Knowledge of the principles and correct usage of the English language including grammar, punctuation, and spelling
Ability to create positive working relationships with a diverse staff
Possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to maintain confidentiality
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent
One (1) year of community public service work, such as library, bookstore, or equivalent
Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to required locations in a timely manner
Must have a valid driver's license
Ability to successfully pass CORI/SORI
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Two (2) years supervisory experience
One (1) year of customer service experience
One (1) year experience working with diverse communities in an urban environment
SALARY RANGE:
$23.21 - $28.09 hourly, full-time, excellent benefits package.
