Overview

Provides direct care for patients through purposeful activity, optimizing each patient's level of
functioning. Assesses and documents patient's functional abilities and needs, plans treatment goals
and objectives, and tracks patient progress as per the regulatory codes for the assigned level of care.
Actively participates in unit and departmental meetings toward the goal of improving patient care and
the service as a whole.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains confidentiality of records relating to patients' treatment.
  • Fosters a therapeutic environment that is physically and emotionally safe, non-judgmental, and
    culturally sensitive and supports patient expression and social connection thereby developing
    therapeutic rapport with and among patients.
  • Assesses each patient as to their functional ability and the level of care and type of contact
    needed (individual or group therapy).
  • Develops and provides services (individual and group) that are responsive to the needs of each
    patient.
  • Plans treatment appropriate the patient's needs that is objective and measurable, carries out
    therapeutic interventions that are patient-centered, identifies patient response and re-evaluates
    patient needs and goals.
  • Documents the direct care planned and provided following the timeline set per the regulatory
    codes for the assigned area of care.
  • Participates actively as a member of the multi-disciplinary team:
    • Contributes clinically relevant information regarding patient functioning, patient
      strengths and confer about aftercare placement.
    • Participates in discussions and activities regarding individual and communal patient
      care.
  • Maintains documentation of therapeutic services including group protocols, attendance sheets
    and patient participation in group or individual sessions and, when relevant, group excursions
    or field trips.
  • Maintains current information about related psychiatric rehabilitation services, creative arts and
    recreational supports in the community and provides educational materials to patients and/or
    family members regarding these services.
  • Attends regularly scheduled clinical supervision with his or her assigned supervisor.
    • Brings relevant clinical issues to supervision,
    • Gives and receive constructive feedback,
    • Discusses issues that impede or support clinical growth.
  • Provides a current schedule of unit programming for the patients and interdisciplinary team.
    • Revises the schedule as needed based on client-centered and clinical reasons.
    • Confers with the Clinical Coordinator and Director of Psychiatric Rehabilitation regarding changes to the schedule that are more long-lasting.
    • Reviews the schedules quarterly with the Clinical Coordinator and Director of Psychiatric Rehabilitation.
  • Attends and actively participates in regularly scheduled unit and discipline meetings and quality improvement projects.
Qualifications

Education & Experience:
  • Master's Degree in either one of the Creative Arts: Drama, Movement, Dance, Art or Music Therapy
  • Preferably a current license as a Creative Arts Therapist, or has applied for a limited permit for Creative Arts therapy, or has other credentialing (e.g. Certified Recreational Counseling) allowing him or her to adequately provide group and individual therapeutic activity for people with mental illness and/or substance addiction.
  • The Creative Arts Therapist has clinical experience with adults who have a psychiatric illness and/or have substance addiction.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Must be a competent clinician and be able to directly treat patients and to supervise the work of staff members in providing treatment.
  • English speaking with fluency is required. Bilingual is preferred.
  • Must be able to manage crisis situations calmly and competently.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and written.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient usage, and operations of PCs, or laptops, and applicable softwares to include, but not limited to, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Physical Requirements:
  • Involves standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing and bending.
  • May include some repetitive motions.
