The Library Intern will gain insight and practical experience within the Library field, with a concentration on collection management. Under the direction and mentorship of the Librarian, the Intern will analyze, arrange, and inventory document physical materials, in order to make the Library's collections more accessible to the Library's users.

Main focus

  • Rehousing, arranging, shifting, and inventorying physical collections such as magazines, newspapers, and vinyl records
Possible related projects
  • Creating and verifying periodicals holdings statements
  • Creating an inventory of magazine covers by artist
  • Alphabetizing, inventorying, and resleeving vinyl collections
  • Identifying and recommending items to weed from the collection
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proficiency in computer skills with a focus on integrated library systems or collections management systems and the entire Microsoft suite, particularly Excel, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams
  • Experience with MARC records, OCLC Connexion Client, and Library of Congress name, subject, and genre authorities
  • Research experience
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Flexibility to adjust to changing demands
  • Historical knowledge of rock & roll and related genres strongly preferred
  • Must have a valid driver's license and transportation to and from the Library & Archives and off-site events
  • Physical demands:
    1. Ability to lift/move items weighing up to 40 lbs. (approximately)
    2. Ability to use a ladder and to bend to reach materials on low shelves
ELIGIBILITY

Intern applicants must be currently enrolled in a college, with applicant preference to current graduate program students.

Details
  • Rock Hall internships are paid positions and for enrichment purposes must be willing to work within other departments. This may include working shifts with the Fan Engagement and Museum Retail teams.
  • The internship is onsite, starting May 28th and ending August 8th. Exact end dates could be later with some internships.
  • Estimated weekly hours for this internship: 40 hours

The Rock Hall is a world-renowned institution and a pillar in the museum and music industries. The internships we host are no different. Not only will all interns get an in depth, project-based learning and working experience, but all interns will also participate in an organization wide internship experience. Weekly career development sessions and or panels with Rock Hall staff will ensure you are getting the most out of your time at the Rock Hall and completing the summer with new tools and resources when it comes to beginning your career. All intern positions will get a chance to work on the floor of the museum to learn firsthand how we create the world class guest experience for our visitors from around the globe. Lastly, all our interns will get to experience summer at the Rock Hall and Cleveland, getting to know the city that helped build Rock & Roll, and all of the events and excitement we curate each summer.
