Description
The Public Relations Intern is a qualified undergraduate or graduate student with an interest in learning about the Police Department and community relations in law enforcement. The goal of the internship is to provide the student a meaningful internship experience in the functions and work of public relations in law enforcement. The Public Relations Intern assists with a variety of administrative and operational duties as developed and assigned by the Public Relations Coordinator. This position will provide support with public relations campaigns, planning and executing signature events, curating content for internal publications, and assisting with photography and videography needs of the Department. The ideal candidate is a creative, eager-to-learn team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail is a must. Graphic design, photography, and videography skills are desired. All majors are welcome to apply. Position reports to the Public Relations Coordinator.

Principal Duties
- Assist with creating, implementing, and measuring the success of public relations campaigns.
- Curate content and assist with story development (interviewing, writing, proofreading, and editing) for employee newsletter and other publications.
- Assist with graphic design for social media, employee newsletter, and other publications.
- Support the Department's photography and videography needs by:
- capturing photo and video content at internal and signature events
- assisting with equipment setup, photography, and color correction of staff portraits
- assists with shooting and editing photos and videos for use in digital and print publications
- Assist with planning and executing the Department's signature events.
- Research public relations trends in law enforcement and suggest ideas for enhancing community relationships.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Must be receiving academic credit from an accredited college or university.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Reliable transportation to and from the Police Department.
- Intermediate level of computer knowledge and experience.
- Ability to utilize word processing and data entry programs.
- Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and strong attention to detail.
- Positive and supportive attitude with people of all backgrounds and abilities.
- Motivated, self-starter who takes the initiative to seek out tasks from staff.
- Commitment to comply with confidentiality requirements and police policies.
- Supportive of the mission of the College Station Police Department.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to make judgments based upon knowledge of department policies and procedures.
