Job Description

Salary:

RAIN Technology Inc., maker of Orva (the OR voice assistant), is seeking a hybrid engineer with expertise in embedded systems and audio engineering to assist in delivering multi-user prototypes on an estimated one-month project.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Bluetooth device management, Raspberry Pi development, and audio signal processing, including microphone array design and/or implementation. This project involves working across two distinct prototypes to enable multi-user interaction and shared audio input/output in surgical environments.

We are excited to work with a skilled professional to deliver innovative solutions that advance the future of surgical voice assistants!

What Youll Do:

  • Advise on, design, and implement hardware/software architecture for Bluetooth management and audio signal processing.
  • Partner with existing Orva software engineering and design/product teams around requirements and dependencies.
  • Develop and configure a Raspberry Pi and other hardware as needed for multi-user Bluetooth routing and microphone array management.
  • Integrate the solution with a device running the Orva Android app.
  • Test prototypes for latency, audio quality, and user experience in simulated real-world environments.
  • Address technical challenges related to wireless protocols, EMI, and audio clarity.
  • Document technical designs and provide recommendations for scaling the solution.

What Youll Bring:

  • Expertise in embedded systems engineering, including Raspberry Pi development.
  • Strong understanding of Bluetooth audio management, including routing and pairing multiple devices.
  • Proficiency in audio signal processing, including microphone array design, beamforming, and noise reduction.
  • Experience developing APIs or using lightweight communication protocols like WebSocket.
  • Familiarity with Android devices and audio integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve hardware-software integration issues.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience working in healthcare or other regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of electrostatic discharge (ESD) and EMI management.
  • Familiarity with voice assistant technologies and ASR systems.

Project Scope & Timeline:

  • Duration: ~4 weeks (open to shorter and maybe longer, depending)
    • We assume this will not be a full-time position but will involve periods of heavy activity and collaboration with the RAIN team, with some breaks in workflow.
  • Deliverables:
    • Functional prototypes for two scenarios (multi-user Bluetooth headsets connected to a single device; far-field mic array).
    • Technical documentation and implementation recommendations.
    • Assistance with initial testing and debugging.

Please include examples of projects that demonstrate your expertise in Bluetooth audio management, microphone array design, and embedded systems development.
