GENERAL SUMMARY

The role of the Mechanical Designer II is to interpret customer orders and specifications based on the level of documentation required. This includes processing customer special orders efficiently through design and bill of material, to ensure a quality, manufacturable product delivered on time. Providing technical assistance on products to all departments, plants and customers. Coordinating designs with sales, quality and manufacturing departments.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
  • Design and process customer special orders. Provide new designs or modified designs based on modifications to standard Dezurik products.
  • Creation of 2D or 3D drawings and layouts using DraftSight/AutoCad, Inventor, & SolidWorks. Drawings include customer installation, assembly and piece parts drawings.
  • Create and enter part numbers, bill of materials, and routers into an ERP system.
  • Process special design orders which includes individual parts by modifying similar parts and completed assemblies.
  • Review customer project and product specifications to assure design, documentation and submittal information follows the specification.
  • Contact vendors for technical data on purchased components. Create vendor specifications as required for customer special orders.
  • Expedites orders to meet customer required dates.
  • Assist with continuation improvement projects with other engineering departments.
  • Assist design, drafting, bill of material, submittals, parts, application engineering, product engineering, purchasing, planners, field service, shop floor and any other area where special order design knowledge and history is needed.
  • Provide internal engineering and troubleshooting support.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:
  • High school diploma plus a 2-year associate or vocational degree in technical drafting and design, and 2 years of related experience.
  • Proficient use of 2D and 3D CAD drafting systems and computer processes.
  • Working knowledge of fluid power systems, instrumentation, basic electronics.

Preferred:
  • Experience in a lean manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with problem-solving skills.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Understanding of manufacturing and foundry practices and processes.
  • Working knowledge of DeZURIK product lines and business systems.
  • Good understanding of DeZURIK standards as well a working knowledge of industry standards.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with others, inside and outside of the company.
  • Good interpersonal skills to provide support to the Engineering group and must be capable of making decisions with guidance on larger tasks.
  • Able to work independently on larger features.
  • Prioritizes own workload in accordance with department goals and daily reports.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Physical demands are typical of an office position including extended periods of sitting, extensive use of a personal computer and telephone.
  • Factory floor support is imperative.
  • The physical requirements of the job are related to some testing in the engineering lab, field service activities that can be part of the job assignments or handling component parts in the plant during a quality inspection.


WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal manufacturing and office environment. When working occasionally in some shop areas, personal protection equipment (PPE) will be recommended and/or required (safety shoes, safety glasses w/side shields, hearing protection, face shield, gloves, apron and boots). Must have the ability to support extended business hours to meet customer business needs.
