Title: Communications Specialist 2 (Technical Editor) Location: Los Alamos, NM Pay: $40/hr - $45.45/hr depends on experience Hours: 5/8 schedule Monday through Friday (40 hours a week) Length: 1 year with possibility of extension Internal Notes: Please submit a cover letter detailing relevant experience and how they meet the qualifications for this role. — applications without a cover letter will not be considered. Hybrid schedule - must live within 2 hours of the laboratory 3 Must Haves:BA/BS in Communications, English or a related field and a minimum of five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience Previous experience working in a national laboratory or complex institution, understanding of large facility operations is also a plus Must be able to complete client's onboarding requirements Technical Knowledge Thorough knowledge of English grammar and punctuation, as well as extensive experience in technical editing and writing Experience evaluating technical documents to determine the needed level and depth of edit based on multiple factors, including length, complexity, structure, and deadline Experience performing a variety of levels of edit, ranging from basic copy to substantive editing, on highly specialized technical documents. You must also have the ability to learn and comprehend new technical concepts and terminology. Communication Skills Excellent written and oral communication, problem solving, and customer service and interpersonal skills Work Management and Customer Service Ability to work on multiple, sometimes conflicting, deliverables and deadlines in a high-pressure work environment where priorities frequently shift. The ability to work effectively within a team and with a variety of technical personnel and managers is essential. Ability to maintain professional and courteous interactions with team members, technical personnel both inside and outside the assigned organization, and a range of managers internal and external to the Laboratory Tools and Systems Medium to advanced proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. A solid understanding of Word styles and templates and PowerPoint-specific formatting is also required. Education/Experience: This position requires a bachelor’s degree in communications, English, or a related field and a minimum of five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Desired Qualifications: Industry Knowledge Experience working with highly technical documents and procedures is a plus. LANL-specific experience or experience working in a large, complex institution or company is desirable. An understanding of large facility operations is also a plus.
