Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE:
No remote opportunity. Position is working 20-25 hours per week, flexible schedule in the office. Responsible for providing writing guidance to technical personnel to provide a more consistent, more professional appearance to technical documents.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:
- Support engineers and scientists in creating technical documents; such as Recommended Operating Procedures (ROP) with editing for spelling, grammar, and organization, including use of terminology and correct references.
- Produce technical documents with direction from the technical experts.
- Revise and update existing technical documents as required by Proposals Team, Sales, Marketing, and Engineering to provide readability level to Process Industry Standards and a more professional appearance as required by recognized engineering practices and company standards.
- Follow and participate in the development and documentation of writing standards for format, procedures to create, update, revise and modify documents; communicate these requirements of writing standards and procedures to others as directed by assigned supervisor, a principle, or engineer.
- Incorporate and confirm that safety, operability, and maintainability warnings are inserted into the written documents.
- Review and check work prepared by others and provide constructive feedback.
- Participate in schedule development and project estimating for the technical writer position.
Education/Certification:
Bachelor degree required
Required Knowledge & Experience:
1-3 years applicable technical writing required
Skills/Abilities:
Possess excellent computer skills utilizing MS Office
Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
Communicate and respond professionally with internal and external customers
Capable of reading and interpreting technical drawings
Familiar with AISI, AISC, ASME and ASTM specifications preferred
Knowledge of construction and fabrication techniques preferred
Must understand use of tape measure, square, level and various layout tools
