Hillsdale is seeking a talented, professional, and principled Graphic Designer who can help disseminate the mission of Hillsdale College. Working with an on-site creative team, this person will design visual marketing communications for both print and digital platforms that reinforce and promote the Hillsdale brand to its national audience, numbering in the millions, including undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, online courses students, podcast listeners, and donors.
Education & Experience
- An undergraduate degree in graphic design or comparable certification and training is required. Having higher education work experience in combination with the above is a plus.
- A strong portfolio that showcases competency in designing an array of marketing brand collateral and advertising for print and digital is required. (Candidates that neglect to include a portfolio will not be considered).
- Creative work that demonstrates a skilled use of typography—typographic hierarchy, copy layout, and styling.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of print layout and web/interactive design experience.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially in InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Other Skills
- Experience preparing files for pre-press.
- Experience creating visual content for social media and websites.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to produce accurate and thorough work.
- Ability to maintain a calm and cheerful demeanor while handling multiple tasks on deadline.
- Good organizational skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.

The Marketing Department interacts with College faculty, staff, students, parents, subscribers, donors, and speakers. A clean and neat appearance and a pleasant relationship that is supportive of the College mission is essential. This relationship needs to be supportive and professional while maintaining confidentiality as needed.
Physical Requirements
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively. Ability to operate basic office equipment. Occasional lifting or otherwise moving of office supplies, booklets, files, and heavy packages, as necessary.
Responsibilities
- Take direction from the Creative Director and Senior Art Director to help translate the College brand through graphic design for print, web, and social media.
- Update existing marketing materials while also designing new creative projects.
- Work collaboratively with the Marketing Creative Team to develop, implement, and manage on-brand website and social media graphics, as well as print marketing collateral, for a large number of College and external partners.
- Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing tasks that enhance the reputation of Hillsdale and are consistent with the College’s priorities and strategic goals.
- Continue to grow as a designer by improving professional skills and maintaining an awareness of trends in creative design, processes, products, and mediums.
