Job Overview:

Men’s Health, Oprah Daily, and Women’s Health are looking for an Associate Copy Editor. The Associate Copy Editor will ensure content is grammatically correct and easy to read while conforming to house format, style, and tone, preserving the writer’s voice. This position works closely with the copy chief and research editors, as well as with the staff editors, to help resolve copy problems. The Associate Copy Editor will work on all print and Apple News+ issues as well as digital feature packages. The ideal candidate is comfortable working quickly but accurately on multiple stories daily, meeting all publishing deadlines. An ability to juggle multiple brands and competing priorities is imperative.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Copy-edit and proofread editorial text to ensure that it is grammatically correct and meets style guidelines.
  • Review changes with editors, writers, and fact-checkers as necessary, collaborating to resolve discrepancies.
  • Manage editorial changes through all stages of production by entering corrections into electronic files and troubleshooting any copy and fit problems as they arise.
  • Help the copy chief track stories and ensure smooth copy flow throughout the editorial production cycle.
  • Work in InCopy as well as the CMS to copy edit print-first and digital-first stories.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency using InDesign/InCopy and Woodwing.
  • Proficiency working within the CMS.
  • Deeply knowledgeable about grammar, spelling, usage, and punctuation, and able to work quickly and accurately on tight deadlines.
  • Highly organized and able to multitask assignments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with the Chicago Manual of Style, AP, and other major style guides.
  • A meticulous approach to work and an eye for detail.
  • Able to collaborate well with others.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, or a related field.

The base salary for this role is between $64,000-$65,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

This position is covered under the Writers Guild of America, East, Collective Bargaining Agreement.
