Job Description Summary

The Grant Writer/Manager will work to secure funding for the health system. The primary objective is to secure funds for the behavioral health program, including the specific substance use disorder programs within the Grayken Center for Treatment. The Grant Writer/Manager will have a proven track record in researching, writing and securing state, federal and private funding and have the experience and or the ability to learn to manage data required to stay compliant with successful grant criteria. This position will report to the Director of Development, Major Gifts and External Relations and work closely with colleagues throughout the health system.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop relationships and collaborate with key stakeholders within the health system and the larger community who are serving the patient population described above. Determine proposal concept by identifying and clarifying opportunities and needs, studying requests for proposal (RFPs), and attending strategy meetings.
  2. Identify and research external grant funding opportunities. Internally, identify sources of information, coordinate submissions and collections, identify and communicate risks associated with proposals.
  3. Develop proposal by assembling information including project nature, objectives/outcomes/deliverables, implementation, methods, timetable, staffing, budget, standards of performance, and evaluation.
  4. Write, revise, and edit drafts including executive summaries, conclusions, and organization credentials.
  5. Meet proposal deadline by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, review, approval, and transmittal.
  6. Coordinate requirements with contributors and contributes proposal status information to review meetings.
  7. Maintain quality results by using templates; following proposal-writing standards including readability, consistency, and tone; maintaining proposal support database.
  8. Work closely with departments to ensure systems are in place to measure and be able to report on required metrics and outcomes based on grant requirements and timelines.
  9. Monitor that expense submissions are within grant-defined caps such as rent, furniture, benefit allowance, etc.
  10. Provide ongoing feedback to Behavioral Health Programs and operational leadership regarding available grants, and how SSH could better position itself in the future to be a stronger applicant.
  11. Improve proposal-writing results by evaluating and redesigning processes, approach, coordination, and boilerplate.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Media, or related field

Minimum Work Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in grant writing, prospect research, general fundraising or a minimum of 3 years comparable and transferable skills acquired in a professional setting.

  • Proficient with measuring and reaching income goals and submitting required data.

  • Ability to use MS Office Suite products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, databases, etc.)
