Job Summary

Incumbent should be highly organized with the ability to implement systems and follow up processes, must be able to effectively work under pressure, use independent judgment and produce a proven track record in securing funding opportunities. Primary responsibilities include preparation of proposals and grant applications, and performance of responsible professional and administrative work in researching, identifying, developing and responding to grant opportunities that promote attainment of strategic plan objectives relevant to organizational needs.

Adhere to the TCC Ch’eghwtsen’ model of service and guiding principle which requires providing timely and effective service along with the ability to interact with others in a way that inspires trust and demonstrates respect, compassion and empathy.

Essential Functions

Representative Duties:

  1. Research and identify new government, corporate, foundation and private funding prospects to match tribal and Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC) priorities.
  2. Generate high-quality proposals, narratives, applications and supporting documents in response to solicitations consistent with all policies and procedures of TCC, and the requirements and guidelines of the funding agencies.
  3. Generate revenues for TCC programs through timely submission of well-researched, well documented grant proposals.
  4. Maintain primary responsibility for grant schedules and tracking grants.
  5. Serve as a liaison to all funding agencies and organizations.
  6. Work with appropriate personnel to research, develop, write and submit letters of inquiry, concept papers and grant proposals.
  7. Coordinate and follow-up on the progress of submitted proposals.
  8. Develop and maintain a master file on pending grants and contracts.
  9. Remain up-to-date on current issues relative to grant proposals.
  10. Become familiar with and adhere to policies and procedures of TCC regarding grant management.
  11. Inform staff and answer questions regarding allowability of proposed expenditures related to specific grants.
  12. Inform supervisor on the progress of all grants and issues that may arise with each grant.
  13. Assist with Village Planning & Development Grant Development Specialist position.

Other Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in community planning, economic development, rural development or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Demonstrated experience with rural Alaska cultures and villages.
  3. Three years of grant writing experience which must include the following elements: definition of objectives, establishment of policies and methodology to further objectives, research and data analysis relevant to objectives, presentation of findings and conclusions.
  4. Experience and proficiency with computer applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point.
  5. Must have valid Alaska Driver's License.
  6. Must pass background check pursuant to federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements and State of Alaska background check.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Show comprehensive knowledge of research, and the ability to distinguish and identify opportunities for TCC.
  2. Motivated self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively and independently with purpose and accuracy in a fast-paced environment and under deadline.
  3. Proficiency in research, interpreting, and analyzing diverse data.
  4. Excellent writing and verbal skills.
  5. Occasional travel may be required.
  6. Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills including expertise in cross-cultural communication.
  7. Ability and willingness to work with a minimum of supervision, self-directed in problem solving and decision-making while working effectively as a team member.

Supervision

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands

Requirements are those of normal office type work with extended hours of sitting and operation of standard office and computer equipment. Must be able to lift, pull, push and carry up to forty pounds. Limited travel may be required. Job incumbent may be required at times to lift up to twenty pounds. Must be able to work efficiently and effectively in a busy, stressful and sometimes highly controversial environment. Work requires attention to detail and is subject to multiple deadlines.

Incumbent should possess excellent writing and computer skills. Incumbent should be highly organized with the ability to implement systems and follow up processes, able to work under pressure use independent judgment and produce a quality work product within tight time constraints.
