Position: Onset Sound Technician
Location: Lawndale, CA and Van Nuys, CA
Availability: June 24th – August 2nd
Duration: Approximately 5-10 days, with a maximum of 6 hours per day

About the Role:

We are looking for a skilled Onset Sound Technician to join our non-profit youth filmmaking program. This exciting opportunity involves working closely with middle and high school students to help them create short films. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in capturing high-quality audio and a passion for mentoring young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Audio Setup and Capture: Set up and operate audio equipment to capture clear, high-quality sound for various types of scenes, including spoken word, songs, monologues, and short scenes.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the DP/Cinematographer and other program members to ensure seamless integration of sound with visual elements.
  • Youth Engagement: Guide and assist middle and high school students in understanding and handling audio equipment, fostering a supportive learning environment.
  • Scene Recording: Ensure consistent audio quality during all filming sessions, adapting to different locations and conditions as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years as a sound technician with a portfolio of work demonstrating proficiency in capturing high-quality audio for film or video.
  • Technical Skills: Expertise in using professional audio equipment, including microphones, boom poles, and audio recorders.
  • Must have own equipment.
  • Client Interaction: Experience working directly with clients, teaching artists, and youth.
  • Transportation: Reliable transportation to travel to school sites in Lawndale, CA, and Van Nuys, CA.

Compensation:

  • Flat pay/stipend for the duration of the project.
  • Day rate: $300/day for a maximum of 6 hours.
  • Additional compensation for pre-production meetings at $50/hour.
