KRGV-TV5 in Weslaco, Texas has the following vacancy Morning / Noon Spanish Language News Anchor.

KRGV Channel 5 News and KRGV 5.2 Noticias RGV is looking for a dynamic Spanish Language News Anchor for our flagship newscasts Monday – Friday on Noticias RGV.

We are looking for an engaging and personable anchor to help lead our growing audience in the mornings and at lunchtime. Our successful candidate is a team player and leader with excellent interviewing skills, and proven ability to skillfully ad lib in any live situation.

Must be able to engage the audience in an authentic way as someone the audience loves watching and wants to watch on a regular basis. Must be able to present news under pressure, during live newscasts as well as outside regularly scheduled newscasts. Responsible for, but not limited to, gathering information, writing and editing newsworthy content including covering breaking/spot news, general news, and feature stories.

The right person must be a solid journalist and participate in story choices and pitches. The morning anchor should work with the producer to find engaging topics for conversation during the newscast. Work to advance the next day’s show. Also responsible for writing stories, headlines and news updates as well as fill-in anchoring duties on other newscasts as needed.

Develop and maintain a network of news sources providing access to exclusive local news stories.

This position is Full Time.

Qualifications/Requirements

  1. Must be 100% fluent in Spanish with excellent verbal and written skills.
  2. Bilingual in Spanish/English.
  3. BA or BS in Journalism, Communications or Political Science preferred.
  4. Must possess a minimum of 2 years television anchor and or on-air reporter experience.
  5. Excellent use of social media for news gathering/disseminating and community engagement.
  6. Must be able to ad-lib effortlessly in various types of situations, particularly breaking news.
  7. Able to handle working under the pressure of intense deadlines.
  8. Have the ability to work effectively with others in a team environment.
  9. Creating a dialog with our morning audience and your friends and followers.
  10. Develop contacts and relationships in the community.
