Dance Wire is hiring: Contemporary Dance Teaching Artist in Portland

PHAME Academy is hiring a Teaching Artist to teach an online section of Contemporary Dance this Winter term (January 8–March 14, 2024). The ideal candidate will be interested in continuing to teach with PHAME in subsequent terms.

About PHAME: PHAME is a fine and performing arts academy serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Offering three ten-week terms of arts-based classes each year, as well as a rigorous performance program, PHAME empowers students to learn new skills, take artistic risks, and build lasting relationships with people who share their experience of having a disability. PHAME is built upon the belief that art is for everyone, and that our community is stronger when it champions opportunities for all. With that in mind, PHAME brings passion, joy, and rigor to arts education and performance.

Compensation: $30/hour for teaching; $20/hour for planning and meetings

• January 8–March 14, 2024
• Wednesdays, 1:15–2:30 p.m.

Class descriptions:

• Hip-Hop Dance
  Explore the foundations of hip-hop in this online dance class. Students will learn isolations, popping, rhythm, and flow while rocking the soulful elements of creative dance: body, space, time, and force! Students of all abilities are welcome, and dance moves can be modified to support students with mobility limitations.
• Kick It Up
  Dance your heart out while listening to high energy jams! This class combines popular music and dance moves, cardio, and coordination. No dance experience necessary, moves can be modified for students with different levels of fitness and mobility. Wear comfortable clothes and make sure you have some space to move.

Classes for future terms will be scheduled based on Teaching Artist availability.
