Job Overview
The Performing and Visual Arts department’s mission is to expand the lives of our audience (and employees) within and beyond the Institution’s gates through the power of the performing and visual arts. The team brings artist and creator visions to life by providing behind-the-scenes support for events and programs. There are multiple events each day; events can include music and orchestral productions and popular entertainment. Last-minute changes are part of the daily work routine. Commitment to work the full summer assembly season is required.
Compensation
Compensation for this position starts at $15.50/hour and, with demonstrated experience and qualifications, candidates may earn up to $17.50/hour.
Responsibilities
- Ensures the guest artist contract elements are met.
- Responsible for identifying and preparing advance work, such as travel and schedule itineraries.
- Handles all related office work including drafting introduction remarks, updating ArtsVision calendar, and receptionist duties.
- Prepares welcome packets which include schedule and logistic details.
- Communicates with guest artist manager(s).
- Is a familiar face for the guest artist; assists the guest artists backstage as needed.
- Resolves last minute issues that arise like hospitality, meals, transportation, etc.
- May be asked to attend rehearsals and performances as a representative of the Artistic Staff.
Schedule
Chautauqua Institution and Chautauqua Hotel Company offer flexible schedules, full and part-time, for seasonal employment during summer operations starting annually each June and concluding in August. Seasonal employment may be available earlier (pre-season) and beyond season (post-season) based on business needs and candidate availability. Schedules typically include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as a requirement. While you will confirm your final schedule with management at the time of an interview and offer of employment, you should generally anticipate the following schedule options for this position:
Will be scheduled to work an average of 40-hours/week. Scheduled hours will include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on the guest artist and event business needs.
Housing
Chautauqua Institution may provide limited housing options on our grounds or assist you with locating nearby housing arrangements for select opportunities based on business needs. Housing is not an option for many positions and may be at a cost to you. Candidates should assume there are no employer-provided or employer-assisted housing options available for this position unless it is otherwise stated.
