Position: Summer Camp Audio/Visual Specialist/Recreation Specialist

Position Type: Overnight Residential - Temporary Full-Time

About this opportunity:

Prepare, plan, and operate audio/visual equipment for meetings, events, classes, seminars at the Salvation Army camps. Ensure camp activities are recorded for Salvation Army publications. Captures video/pictures for publications. Plans, coordinates, and leads all recreational sports (softball, baseball, soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, etc.) at camp. Trains other camp staff to lead, chaperone and monitor recreation activities. Ensure safety of campers and staff while participating in activities, ensuring a positive experience for campers. Participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.

Key responsibilities:

Audio/Visual (30%)

  • Sets up, adjusts, and operates audio/visual equipment for various camp programs, including worship services and concerts.
  • Operates and installs audio/visual equipment.
  • Keeps sound room clean and organized.
  • Reports any problems with audio/visual equipment.
  • Secures and locks all audio/visual equipment after each session.
  • Produces a weekly review video for each camp session.
  • Instructs camp employees in the selection, use, and design of audio/visual materials.
  • Plans and prepares audio/visual teaching aids and methods for camp classes.
  • Performs maintenance tasks such as cleaning monitors and lenses.
  • Maintains collections of audio/visual material.
  • Ensures safety procedures are followed.
  • Participates as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs and other camp activities.
  • Sits with camper tables during meals and serves as a table monitor when needed.
  • Keeps personal living quarters neat and ready for inspection.

Recreation (70%)

  • Plans, develops, coordinates, supervises, and participates in a variety of recreation activities for campers.
  • Sets up sports and recreation areas for activities.
  • Performs duties in accordance with regulatory compliance guidelines.
  • Supervises recreation activities to ensure safety; instructs campers and staff in proper methods for play.
  • Ensures a positive experience for campers.
  • Ensures the recreation area and supplies are clean and free from debris.
  • Conducts daily inspections of all recreational areas and equipment.
  • Ensures sports equipment and fields are secured after each session.
  • Participates as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs and other camp activities.
  • Sits with camper tables during meals and serves as a table monitor when needed.
  • Keeps personal living quarters neat and ready for inspection.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for in you:

  • Two years’ experience in video production and leading sports or recreation activities preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Some physical requirements could include endurance, climbing, standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours is required.

Additional Information:

Camp Staff Orientation will be held June 9– June 15, 2025, and participation is required. The 2024 summer Camp program session will be held June 16 - July 19, 2025. If you are unable to work the entire session, please let us know on your application.
