Summary: KRWG Public Media at New Mexico State University is seeking a skilled and highly motivated professional for the position of Broadcast Specialist,Sr. This position is responsible for all facets of technical support for a dynamic public media outlet that serves Southwestern NM and West Texas. The ideal candidate will perform preventive maintenance and major repairs on solid state electronic and broadcast equipment.
Classification Summary: Under minimal supervision, installs, operates, maintains, and repairs broadcast, satellite, and transmission systems and equipment. Develops functional and operational test procedures to ensure quality reception and transmission. Maintains documentation as required by FCC regulations and university procedures.
Classification Standard Duties: Performs preventive maintenance and major repairs on solid state electronic and broadcast equipment. Makes changes in circuitry, design, and installation to adjust for assembly, maintenance, functions, and/or space requirements. Maintains accurate records, discrepancy reports, test reports, log entries, and other documents as required by FCC regulations and station requirements. Assists in developing standard test procedures and equipment to conduct functional and operational tests to evaluate quality and performance of video or audio reception, production, and transmission. Teaches and trains faculty and students in audio-visual principles, methods, techniques, and equipment operation. Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology and systems to effectively recommend changes, update, and redesign of facilities. May program and install software and hardware for compressed video communication system. May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency: Required Education: High School diploma or GED certificate. Required Experience: Five (5) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined. Equivalency: Completion of a post-secondary degree or certificate may substitute for years of experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of broadcast systems circuitry, design, and/or installation. Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise. SKILLS: Records maintenance skills. ABILITIES: Ability to design, install, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and/or repair television broadcast equipment. Ability to provide technical training to staff and/or students in area of expertise. Ability to test systems and/or operations in compliance with published standards.
Job Duties and Responsibilities: Assists in design and planning of new projects. Assembles and sets up audio and video equipment, cameras, recorders, and other equipment needed for broadcast production both in studio and on location; monitors and operates equipment during production; takes corrective action if problems develop. Monitors and adjusts signal strength and clarity during broadcasts. Participates in the setup, operation, and maintenance of advanced broadcasting equipment, ensuring optimal performance and troubleshooting technical issues. Researches new equipment and processes to ensure efficient station operation. Sets up and takes down broadcasting equipment for events. Aligns antennas with receiving dishes in order to obtain the clearest signal for transmission of broadcasts from field locations. Works with Broadcast Tech, Chief to test and integrate new systems. Provides technical and operational support to mechanical and electronic equipment within the broadcast facility.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
Environment: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
