Position Summary

Monmouth University is seeking applications for part-time Professional Content Specialists in the Tutoring and Writing Services department. Professional Content Specialists are faculty members with strong teaching backgrounds and knowledge in content specific disciplines. They are committed to helping students by providing positive tutorial experiences in these content areas: sciences (biology/chemistry/physics), math (college algebra through calculus), or business (financial/managerial accounting/economics/business finance/money, credit, finance).

The goal of each tutorial is to assist students in developing strategies that will help strengthen their knowledge, develop transferable learning skills, and achieve academic success.

Required Skills or Software

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Must be able to utilize a variety of computer software programs in order to successfully complete assigned tasks
  • Must be able to treat confidential and sensitive information appropriately

Preferred Qualifications

  • College level teaching experience
  • Experience in conducting tutorials
  • Knowledge of different learning styles, modalities, and experience with students of diverse learning abilities

Job Duties

  • Attend Tutoring Service meetings and training sessions as required
  • Learn how to use Accudemia to document student attendance and notes about each tutorial session
  • Communicate regularly to the Director about student progress and report any concerns
  • Provide academic support for First Year Advising referrals, Department of Disability Services referrals, probationary students, and students who receive MEWS notifications
  • Follow up with students as needed
