Job summary:

Copywriting requires more than strong writing skills. It requires deep understanding of your audience, the ability to capture a brand’s tone of voice and strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members. As part of the Agency Habitat team, our copywriters are expected to concept, write compelling content, and develop and execute innovative and effective creative content that meet client expectations and drive results. When necessary, you will work closely with Habitat’s specialty teams, including studio and interactive media to bring these ideas to life.

Our copywriters bring the big ideas and support them with fresh and informative content that clearly speaks to a specific audience, in a voice that is unmistakably part of a client’s brand. In addition to your writing skills, we’ll tap your strategic and interpersonal abilities to help develop campaign strategies, goals and timelines as needed. Long story short, all of our copywriters are an important part of a bigger creative vision that happens when talented people work hard and have fun pushing boundaries to create awesome stuff.

Key responsibilities:

  • Write clever, appropriate copy solutions for a range of brand and content projects with a strong focus on social media content such as paid ads, organic posts, stories, reels, and other digital content.
  • Create content for multiple clients, projects, and social platforms with unique voices and needs, maintaining quality and consistency while regularly switching gears on deadline.
  • Ensure content aligns with the latest social trends, changes and best practices.
  • Work with account and specialty teams to define creative needs, and manage client expectations, budgets and project parameters to ensure on-target execution.
  • Consult with account managers to ensure creative briefs are accurate and comprehensive.
  • Ensure adherence to creative briefs, budgeted time and deadlines.
  • Regularly brainstorm individually and as part of creative team to conceptualize ideas.
  • Take creative projects from concept to completion with minimal guidance, adapting content for different platforms and audiences.
  • Create engaging and captivating on-screen copy and captions that capture the tone and voice of each client.
  • Present or co-present creative work to internal teams and clients (in person and virtually).
  • Participate in new business pitches, which may include conceptualization, execution and presentation.
  • Help art directors develop content for mockups, storyboards and presentations to convey ideas to clients as requested.
  • Help nurture associate copywriters and interns.
  • Remain current on best practices, trends and technology developments in the social and digital media spaces and in client industries.
  • Work with internal creative teams to cast, script and perform in short-form social video content when needed.
  • Foster collaboration by helping create an inviting, stimulating and easily accessible creative environment.
  • May be asked to formally evaluate team members and provide appropriate input to HR processes.
  • As part of being a copywriter, you may be asked to perform other tasks as assigned to help the department or to fulfill your assignments.

Relationships:

Reports to: Copywriting Supervisor, Senior Copywriters

External relationships: Clients

Qualifications:

Education: B.A. degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Advertising, Marketing or other related discipline.

Work experience: 2+ years of creative writing experience (agency experience preferred); portfolio demonstrating professional experience.

Work requirements: Occasional overtime and travel required.

Knowledge and skill set requirements:

  • Strong work ethic and passion to create especially in the social media and content space.
  • Proven ability to concept and generate original creative ideas for an array of projects and a range of clients.
  • Deep understanding of social media content creation, including audience engagement, platform algorithms, and content optimization across platforms.
  • Experience creating content optimized for both print and digital spaces.
  • Proficient understanding of the principles of writing, including tone, voice, story structure and persuasiveness.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with social media content creation as well as brand content.
  • Good command of AP style and ability to apply it consistently.
  • Understanding of business and marketing fundamentals.
  • Progressing knowledge of print processes, techniques and opportunities to enhance projects via creative production.
  • Proven presentation and verbal communication skills and an ability to sell your work internally and externally.
  • Ability to self-assess and self-edit your creative, as well as a willingness to stand up for work and accept criticism when appropriate.
  • Solutions-oriented attitude in both optimal and challenging situations.
  • High degree of organization, with ability to deliver work in a timely fashion and meet scheduled deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt as needs change and industry standards evolve, while producing in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to perform duties with a high level of enthusiasm, respect and initiative.
  • High level of autonomy to lead the creative direction of a project, make strategic copy decisions and provide guidance to the creative team.
