Role purpose and overview
The US Editor role is for a senior journalist, leading the Telegraph's reporting in the US.
It will entail delivering copy that informs and enlightens a global audience as well as some content that is more narrowly targeted at the US and developing the Telegraph brand there.
Key responsibilities
- Senior member of the Telegraph's US team, covering US affairs.
- Generating ideas, writing interesting and well-informed content across US news and affairs for both online and print publication.
- Write breaking news stories and provide longer form pieces, including comment and features when required.
- Responding to breaking news and planning coverage of future events and longer term projects.
- Focus on digital storytelling and the use of analytics and social media to develop and retain an online audience.
- React to the demands of a 24/7 online news environment.
- A readiness to travel at short notice will be expected.
Key skills
- Significant journalistic experience of writing and editing for a newspaper or website.
- Significant knowledge, and preferably first hand experience, of US affairs is essential.
- Interest in and knowledge of multimedia storytelling.
- Previous experience of political reporting is desirable.
- Experienced in both breaking news and working on longer pieces, projects, comments and features.
- Ability to keep calm under pressure and work autonomously in a remote location.
- Knowledge and experience of digital publishing preferred.
Able to work to tight deadlines and work under pressure.
