Job Description Summary

Under general supervision, responsible for the functional management of the Integrated Library Management System (OCLC WorldShare Management Services) and coordinates the use and integration of electronic research resources and technology in faculty teaching and research and in library collections and services. Oversees library operations and services during weekend and evening hours. Teaches two sections of legal research courses during the academic year.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the library’s integrated library management system, including installment of software upgrades.
  • Serves as the first point of contact for issues related to the operation and implementation of the integrated library management system.
  • Participates in IT projects pertinent to the skills and interests of the Systems Librarian.
  • Maintains an awareness of current trends and developments in library automation and information technologies.
  • Assumes primary responsibility for all library services during the evening and weekends, including the coordination and supervision of circulation, reserve, collection management, and photocopy services. Ensures compliance with University and library policies and procedures.
  • Provides general legal reference and research services to students, faculty, and public library patrons, with particular emphasis on electronic resources. Performs online database searches.
  • Manages the development and teaching of computer-assisted legal research instructional programs. Provides electronic current awareness service for faculty.
  • Participates in the process to review, evaluate, and select electronic resources for library collection development.
  • Assists in the development and updating of the content of the law library web pages.
  • Serves as library liaison with database vendors. Acts as liaison to faculty regarding electronic research projects.
  • Recommends policies and procedures and coordinates user services with other library departments.
  • Prepares user aids such as bibliographies, user guides, research and instructional-based pathfinders, exhibits, newsletters, and blogs on the library to assist patrons using the library. Develops documentation and guides for electronic resources.
  • Assists in training and supervising student workers for the department.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Juris Doctorate degree with two (2) years of Information Technology experience OR Master of Library Science (MLS) OR Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) OR Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS).

Required Licensing/Certification: Valid Texas Driver’s License preferred.
