This is a full-time professional exempt position in the Community Partnerships section of the library. Work involves community engagement and collaboration through outreach, services, and partnerships; coordinating adult and intergenerational programming and displays; providing reference and readers' advisory services; participating in general and reference collection development; and working as a member of the Community Partnerships team. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Community Partnerships Supervisor. Regular evenings and weekends are required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Plans, develops, and implements adult and intergenerational programs, projects, and community initiatives
- Leads specialized services and programs and advances creation and innovation in the library
- Provides reference and readers' advisory services to patrons in the community, at adult public service desks, via telephone, and via online platforms
- Instructs and empowers patrons and community partners in the use of library resources
- Participates in general, adult, and reference collection development
- Makes presentations to the public, community partners, media, and staff as needed
- Works to advance section strategies to meet the goals and objectives of the library and City of Appleton
- Maintains regular punctual and predictable attendance, works extra hours as required
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Identifies opportunities to connect library resources with community issues, needs, and interests
- Responds to requests for information and reference services in a thorough and timely manner
- Conducts library tours and conducts outreach to promote library resources in the community
- Thinks and works collaboratively and communicates effectively
- Maintains flexibility, ability to handle multiple competing priorities and tasks, adaptability to change, and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Maintains skills through participation in professional organizations and appropriate continuing education activities
- Supervises library building and communicates library policies, rules, and procedures to the public upon request
- Other duties as assigned
Requires some experience in public library service and a Master's Degree in Library Science, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills:
- Knowledge of and ability to communicate the general principles of professional librarianship
- Ability to use knowledge and training to serve the needs of the library productively
- Ability to maintain effective relationships with other employees and the public and to deal with public relations issues courteously and tactfully
- Knowledge of and ability to conduct community engagement, develop programs, and utilize current technologies
- Proficiency in Windows, MS Office, and ability to quickly adapt and learn new software as needed
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to speak Spanish or Hmong a plus
