Summary
Under general supervision of the Mobile Services Manager, the At Home Services Librarian/Assistant Manager leads the At Home Services team and works as second in charge of managing daily operations at the Mobile Services Facility. As the supervisor for the At Home Services team, this position builds structure and processes to support the growing delivery of services to At Home patrons. At Home Services include Lobby Stops, Bag Swaps, and the KC Library by Mail programs. This position supports the Mobile Services Team mission, to deliver the Library to patrons in the community and to increase public access to materials and resources by reducing barriers. The role uses the Integrated Library System to establish and uphold procedures that ensure the integrity of library Circulation Manual within Mobile Services. Cross training, backup support, and the ability to perform all of Mobile Services programs is essential. The position provides excellent customer service demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively with people regardless of age, race, sexual orientation, ability level or background. This is a full-time position with a starting salary of $53,910 plus excellent benefits.
Job Duties (Essential Functions)
- Supervises the At Home Services team to include Lobby Stops, Bag Swaps, and Library by Mail programs; partnerships in the community to expand At Home Services program and increase patron engagement.
- Serves as second in charge of Mobile Services daily operations.
- Schedules staff, substitutes, and volunteers while monitoring attendance to ensure adequate staffing for At Home Services programs and coordinates with Manager for staffing wider Mobile Services programs. This may include adjusting or reasonably augmenting own schedule if other staff cannot be found to provide coverage.
- Resolves issues and notifies Mobile Services Manager or assigned manager of impact to services or personnel.
- Supports the Mobile Services Manager in documenting Integrated Library System (ILS) functions for the Mobile Services SOP Manual, facilitates patron access to library materials through circulation and registration services, and clarifies circulation policies and procedures.
- Works with other departments: Branch Services, Information Systems, Library Collections, Community Resources, Community Reference, Tech Access, Youth & Family Engagement, and Public Affairs to facilitate access to services and information.
- Participates in hiring, training, and evaluating direct and indirect reports in collaboration with the Mobile Services Manager to ensure staff can give the highest quality service.
- Maintains a safe and inclusive environment, completing incident reports and communicating trends with library leadership. Upholds patron behavior guidelines in collaboration with Safety staff.
- Performs circulation control duties, management and workflow.
- Provides readers advisory, viewers, and listeners assistance to library patrons.
- Ensures effective, courteous working relationship with all library patrons and resolves At Home Services patron issues to satisfaction using Values Based Customer Service.
- Performs office tasks to maintain the effective execution of departmental activities and other organizational tasks; or may be responsible for scheduling, approving time sheets, and other office tasks.
- Keeps abreast of relevant research for current trends and best practices in Library service through outreach.
- Performs other related work and undertakes special projects as assigned.

Requirements
- Experience working with library operations and procedures, especially providing circulation cataloging services.
- Ability to work with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to provide outstanding service to a wide range of customers by telephone, through written communication, and in person.
- Communicates effectively orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to work productively and cooperatively with Outreach and Library staff.
- Demonstrated flexibility which includes willingness to readily respond to changing circumstances and expectations.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to develop and grow new library services.
- Ability to apply creative problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work outside for an extended period of time during outreach events.
- Must have intermediate computer skills, with experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, databases, email, word processing, and circulation expertise.
- Must be able to regularly lift up to 35 pounds.
- Demonstrated skill at organizing multiple projects and simultaneous deadlines with minimal, if any, supervision.
- Obtain a Missouri Class E License or equivalent and ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License.
- Acceptable driving record and willingness to drive Library Fleet Vehicles.
- Demonstrated ability to organize work effectively and supervise personnel.
- Working knowledge of current library practices.
Required Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Library/Information Science or equivalent combination of education and experience with emphasis on public services.
- Ability to speak and understand English is required. Additional consideration may be given to individuals that are fluent in any non-English languages spoken in the Kansas City area including Somali, Swahili, Spanish, Arabic, French, Dari, Pashto, and Vietnamese.
Work Environment
Work is performed at the Library’s Truman Road Facility throughout the district. Primary workspace is shared with co-workers in a warehouse/garage/office environment, other work will be performed in public and community spaces amongst patrons from a diverse socio-economic community.
