Librarian - Youth Services, Dedham Public Library (Dedham)

The Town of Dedham seeks highly qualified candidates for the position of Youth Services Librarian. This position is responsible for planning and implementing children’s programs, collection development, providing reference and circulation services to children and caregivers, and assisting patrons with technology.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

1. MLS degree required; applicants expected to complete MLS degree within six months of hire will be considered.
2. 2 or more years of library experience preferred.
3. Must receive an acceptable CORI/SORI report.

Knowledge, Ability and Skill

1. Knowledge of the developmental needs of children at various ages and corresponding library services and materials.
2. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, Canva, Google Drive, Sierra Library Service Platform, and willingness to learn new software programs as needed.
3. Familiarity and experience with reference, readers advisory, and research services.
4. Ability to work well with a large staff and diverse patrons and be committed to fostering a positive, collaborative work environment.
5. Ability to implement new ideas, programs, and practices within the Library to maximize community utilization.
6. Ability to thrive in an ever-changing, fast-paced collaborative environment.
7. Possess a thorough knowledge of and familiarity with modern office equipment, technology, electronic equipment, and software applications and operations.
8. Possesses a high degree of organization and time management skills and has the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and handle diverse tasks.
9. Ability to understand written procedures and understand complex, multi-step, written and oral instructions.
10. Ability to work independently and as part of a team required.
11. Ability to take initiative, exercise sound judgment, and make decisions within the scope of their authority.
12. High level of professionalism and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
13. Ability to relate and communicate in a positive manner and deal tactfully and appropriately with the general public and town departments.
14. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
15. Bilingual or with functional knowledge of another language preferred.
16. Available to work a schedule consisting of 37.5 hours per week, including evening shifts and a weekend rotation.
