LAC Federal is seeking a highly motivated and skilled person to join our team. As a Library Clerk, you will work on-site and support collection maintenance activities for a large federal library in Washington, D.C. Duties will range widely and will require working with diverse library materials.

Work Hours: 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Job Status: Part Time Contract

Responsibilities:

  • Working with the library’s automated circulation system
  • Sorting, arranging, and transporting library materials to be shelved
  • Breaking down materials to include separating and sorting materials on book trucks according to call number ranges
  • Identifying materials requiring follow-up for collection stabilization and rehousing
  • Maintaining detailed logs of activities
  • Shelf-reading and reviewing each shelf piece-by-piece
  • Refiling out-of-place items or routing them to the proper location
  • Identifying problem materials per written procedures

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred knowledge of other languages than English
  • Ability to develop knowledge of standard Law library policies, procedures, and services related to one or more library functions
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and initiative to manage multiple tasks and deadlines and work independently
  • Ability to learn and follow complex procedures and policies

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to move from place to place within the location; lift, push/pull, hold/carry items weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds such as files, books, stacks of paper, and other materials.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time and maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
