Student Worker - Library Assistant
Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Student Worker - Library Assistant. The student worker will provide excellent patron support and engage with library faculty to positively impact student success.

Core Responsibilities:
Service Desk
- Greets patrons who approach the service desk.
- Creates a positive experience for library patrons.
- Checks library materials out to patrons and processes returned materials accurately.
- Answers patron questions in person, over the phone, and via live chat.
- Assists with course reserves, study room reservations, and media/equipment check outs.
- Engages in mentoring new library assistants and encourages a commitment to high standards and accountability.
- Collaborates with library faculty and staff to improve library resources, methods, and environment.
- Participates in a variety of library projects including testing electronic resources, shelving, helping with events, etc.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Research Assistance
- Frontline research questions involving our library collection, such as our databases.
- Assists with creating tutorials on library or research topics.
- Ability to accurately apply sound research techniques to assist patrons.
- Directs students to librarian consultations when applicable.
Technology Assistance
- Assists and troubleshoots a wide variety of software, hardware, and printing problems for students, faculty, and other library users.
- Understands and maintains the fleet of tech devices available for borrowing.
- Maintains printers by refilling paper and toner, clearing paper jams, and troubleshooting error messages.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- Must be enrolled as a degree seeking student with a minimum of 6 credits in the current or upcoming semester at Nevada State.
- Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).
- Customer service experience, and/or proven ability to work with the public.
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions, learn and apply procedures.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple duties.
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot standard office machines such as personal computers, scanners, fax machines, copiers, shredders, and calculators.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Canvas/WebCampus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with library research and use of databases.
- Experience in the hospitality or retail sector.
Work Hours:
This position will work 15 hours per week. Student employees can work up to 19.5 hours per week.
Hourly Rate:
$12.00 per hour.
